"Jasper!" A voice called from behind him. Jasper's hand stalled on the doorknob. He turned to see Jenna standing at the far end of the hallway, her face a mask of surprise and concern. "Jasper, you're so badly injured. What are you doing out of bed? The doctor said you shouldn't—" She reached out to support him, but he stepped aside, avoiding her touch. Ignoring her, he turned back and pushed the hospital door open. The bed was empty. The linens were folded perfectly, like no one had ever slept there. He stilled.
