I intend to speak with Scott the next morning, but instead, I oversleep. When I finally wake up and realize I have missed my alarm, panic sets in. Afternoon sunlight is already spilling into my room, drenching my cream-and-violet bedsheets in honey yellow. The clock on my bedside table informs me it’s already two in the afternoon, which means I have slept for fourteen hours and missed my morning meetings. But overall, I feel much better—rested. That is good because a missed voice mail from Julie informs me that the boys are at a radio interview downtown and that she would appreciate my bringing her a large coffee.
