I was startled by Anat’s sobs, and found myself running towards her. Well, not exactly running, since that’s not something I can do with a belly this big.
“Anat!” I called as I approached her. “What’s wrong?” I sat next to her on the bed and took her hand.
Lady Iset suddenly turned, looking at the nurses who followed me. “You all can leave now. I can take care of the Queen for now.”
The nurses bowed immediately before they left.
When Lady Iset turned back to Anat, she nodded her head.
Anat’s crying, which had quieted down for a moment, came back out in full blast, which startled me again.
She pulled her hand out of mine and hugged me. Though my belly made that a little uncomfortable, she still hugged me. “Nathifa!” She cried. “I’m pregnant!”
