I froze, nearly dropping my phone in the process. What on earth were they doing together? Surely, he hadn’t moved on without even saying anything to me. I went to sleep with him in my bed and had heard nothing since. I decided to continue and message Emily, giving me a minute to register what I was seeing. Hey Em, you’re a lifesaver. I don’t know how you did it, but I will be forever grateful that you did. Within seconds, my phone buzzed with a reply. Old man Carlson is out at the cash and carry. I was in the middle of doing some paperwork. I’m so glad I answered the phone. Did you get the job? I did, thank you. I will never be able to repay you.
