Hawk's POV
The roar of my beast matched the one we heard in the woods. This was another old one. I knew this killer well. We had teamed up, doing big jobs together. Today that team work ended. I was not going to give up Amber.
My black paws pounded the forest floor, disturbing the layers of debris that laid there. My nose looked for his scent, while red eyes looked for his power trail. I howled again, beckoning him to me.
I sat and waited, I could hear the toppling of trees, and the sounds of his big frame moving through the trees toward me. I stood, knowing he was closer. The large were-lion stopped just 30 feet from me. His long black mane, and glowing red eyes, assessing if I was a threat. He would be a fight, my beast the same size as his though his looked like a lion, mine looked more like a the devilish red eyed dog of myth.
"Why are you running here?" My beast asked.
"I was sent a kill order by V." Huffed the tawny black maned feline.
"For who?" Grunted my black beast.
"A girl, at Momma Dee's." Rumbled the lion's chest.
"That girl is under my protection." The muscles in the form of my beast loosened.
"Interesting," The lion paused a moment.
"She was created for me by the Goddess, I will not loose her now that I found her. I am sure you understand that." The warning tone was not missed.
"I have no quarrel with you. We have worked together over the many centuries," The lion formed into a man of mixed lineage. Leaning more to the paintings and carvings of old Egypt.
I followed his lead and stepped into my human form. "I appreciate this Maahes." I titled my head in a slight bow never taking my eyes off him.
"This is how I show my support. Nor do I want to be food for Lilth." Maahes, words accented by his forgotten language.
"Understood." My own lips smirking at his.
The swirl of sand encapsulated Maahes body. When it dissipated he was gone. I hadn't wanted to kill him if it was not needed. Returning to my beast form, I leaped through the woods, bounding around trees, while checking the air for anything off. I could sense nothing. Just before stepping on to the training grounds I changed to my human form.
"Hawk!" I heard Amber shout. I watched her race down the stairs, running at full speed toward me.
I felt her slam into me as I picked her up twirled her around in a circle. "I wasn't gone THAT long," I stressed the word "that" with a chuckle.
"I was still worried," Her words excited as she kissed my cheek.
I held her to me, her legs wrapped around my hips as she laid her head on my shoulder. "I will always come back. Have you forgotten who I am?" I kissed her forehead.
"No, I just don't want to loose you." She cuddled closer.
I squeezed her closer to me. I had no words, for that other then the need to hold her close. I walked back up to the porch, placing myself on the swing and her in my lap.
"Taken care of?" I heard Mato's voice say before he came out the door way.
"Maahes and I came.to an understanding for now." I answered watching Mato's eyes get big.
"Well that is good." Mato collected himself and placed his cool exterior back.
"Maahes?" Amber looked up at me to ask.
I nodded to her.
"He is the God of war, as well as the lord/guardian of the horizon," She announced proudly. "He helps Ra protect the pharaohs." Amber had been looking at Mato, turning to look at me with wide eyes. "HE was AFRAID of YOU." Her words stressed the intense surprise she felt.
"Of me, yes of Lilith more." I shrugged. "Nobody wants to feed Lilth it just happens."
I kissed Amber's forehead, "I see you have learned a lot from those books." I smiled proudly at her.
"I have." Amber's shoulders fell. "I just wish I knew what I was." I felt her body sag against my chest.
"In due time," I. tilted her chin with my index finger brushing my lips lightly against hers.
"Dex, sent a message he has his sister back." Mato broke in. "Also said that the lab was suddenly moved to Europe."
looking to Mato, I could see he was not happy about it. "How far from here was the lab?" I asked.
"A day's drive." Mato looked between Amber and I.
"Hmm, they know we know." I glanced up, seeing Mato nod. "Perhaps we should check out that list of names."
"I was thinking the same, a few of the early ones may know more." Mato spoke his words tight now. "I have a prison below the house. I might send a few of mine to gather them?"
I heard the question in his words. I liked the idea. I could stay with Amber. The early ones who had her weren't very old. Most of the warriors here could take them easily. "Yes, that sounds like a good idea."
"Dinner will be done soon," Mato changed his tone, "perhaps you'll eat with us." He smirked.
Amber's belly growled at the thought of food. All three of us started laughing. "Yes, it sounds like we will hang out until dinner." I grinned.

Unknown POV
***********
A pool of water shimmered with the reflection of a long black haired man and a chestnut haired girl sitting in his lap. The pool showed a glowing pink aura around them. "How?" Growled a man, muscles bulging as he flexed his fists at his sides. His fangs, long and eyes glowing orange with anger.
"I am not sure Milord. She was destined for you." The old woman kept throwing herbs in the water. Shaking her head in frustration, she grabbed her dagger, holding her hand over the water she sliced her palm with a hiss. Her forked tongue came out of her mouth and her eyes turned to slits. She was unlocking the dark matter powers.
The blood, swirled and blended into the water full of herbs. The water changed, Another woman's face appeared, then shimmered to a cloaked figure. The cloaked figure suddenly jerked back the hood, her dark eyes danced as her black hair framed her face.
The witch hissed and slammed her uninjured hand into the water breaking the focus of the magic reflection. "Leto." The woman looked up to the massive man who towered above her. She was old and feeble. But her power was still of good use.
"How is that possible?" The man snarled looking at the tiny woman, her grey hair a mess of wild grey curls trapped in a worthless bun.
"She is the daughter of Gaia. A goddess among the others. She can do as she sees fit." The old woman started putting her things away.
"I had the approval of the gods!" Roared the man, "How many times will I loose my wife!" He slammed his fist down near the reflective bowl. The table it stood on, snapped in half. Letting everything including the bowl crash to the ground and slosh the water every where.
"Leto, can override any, it is her perk." Shrugged the old woman as she turned to cluck at the damage he had done.
"Why would she have interest in this," the man was pacing back and forth now. Clenching and unclenching his fists, as he ground his teeth in thought.
"You did try to kill her descendent. You have threatened the one that now lives and have killed countless others to keep your wife asleep." The crone shrugged she did not care if he killed her or not.
"Why wait now, when almost everything was in place!" He snarled slamming his fist into the wall of her house. He paced a moment longer before he just poofed outta her room.
The elder surveyed the room, seeing the bowl on the ground her instinct was to pick it up. As she did she glanced at the water. She sucked in a breath when she seen the dark eyed woman known as Leto looking back at her. "He will die when my family is reunited." She whispered before disappearing.
The old witch's eyes darted around the room. Checking if anyone had heard that. Leto's family... could it be? She would have to keep watch quietly. Seeing her house in disarray she tsked and got to work cleaning it.
