Chapter Nineteen Business is light for the first two hours of my shift. This gives me a reason to spend the time doing busywork. Not that I’m a fan, but doing menial things like cleaning the restrooms, wiping down tables, and taking inventory allows me the headspace to work through the jigsaw puzzle my life has become. Lucas gets a text from Austin around one o’clock. The boss-man’s doctor prescribed him some heavy-duty pain meds, ordered a more comprehensive scan of his ankle, and instructed him—over Austin’s strenuous objections—to take a few days off work.
