My mind went completely blank in that moment. All those stares felt like fire on my skin. I felt completely exposed.

Is this how my biggest secret gets exposed?!
King Soren might claim he loves me like a daughter, but I knew he wouldn't hesitate to hang me if he found out about me and the rogues. And my mother… we had our differences, but I never wanted to drag her into this mess.
And Ezra… Nothing would stop him from punishing me.
So many thoughts whizzed through my mind as I stood there, frozen stiff. Until finally, Ezra's angry voice—laced with something that almost sounded like worry—broke the silence:
