It wasn’t long after the three of us had settled down in the living room, me with my leg elevated again, that we were ready to play a game of poker. Peter was determined to win, and Moira had asked to be taught the game. I had a feeling that once she mastered it, she would be a ferocious opponent and Peter would be sorry. What I really wanted to do was to speak to Moira alone, but she had received a call and had to leave for the hospital. I sensed she wanted to talk to me too, but Peter was underfoot all night. Not that I minded, of course. But somehow, I felt that my new friend held answers for me, and when the time was right, she would explain things.
