Dearne caught Will’s shocked glance from the corner of the room where he stood. He looked at Holbrook who appeared about to expire. Augustus looked mortified and Dearne could only presume this was the problem he had intended discussing with him. And Eleanor? Eleanor just looked defiant. Had she actually stolen his inheritance because the boy needed money to pay his gambling debts? “Why didn’t you ask me?” Holbrook said, apparently trying his utmost to maintain at least a modicum of composure. “Because you wouldn’t have given it to me,” Eleanor snapped. Eyes flashing. Holbrook went a peculiar shade of purple, so much so Dearne began to fear for his health. “You sold Denton?” Holbrook whispered. Eleanor nodded. Her cheeks were flushed; her eyes defiant. “Did you take Will’s money, too?”
