“Who and why? What would they have wanted with your old files? You were reprimanded for this latest case, right? Not all your cases.” “That’s what they told me.” As Mason spoke, he continued opening the other drawers. They were all the same, empty. “Fuck.” Mason turned around and went to his computer, his fingers whizzing over the keys. Something was wrong. Mason’s expression turned dire. “What the f**k is going on?” The words were barely out of his mouth when he froze. Concern racked Noah. “Mason, what is it?” Mason held up one finger. Noah waited patiently for Mason, whose eyes squeezed shut, body tensing. Noah could tell Mason’s brain traveled a mile a minute. Noah felt ready to jump out of his skin. Was Mason in pain? Was it from the accident? About to ask, Mason opened his eyes.
