Prom night

560 Words
At the diner I paused before entering. I wasn't shy but I still had anxiety. What if I had lied to myself, what if this dress wasn't all I sumed it up to be? Before I could talk myself out of prom completely, Sadie opened the diner door. "Oh Marcy. You are to die for" she exclaimed. She drug me into the diner to the table our friends sat at. Time seemed to stop. The women were jealous and the men gawked at my assests. Our male friends undressed me with their eyes. Then reality snapped back. Everyone continued about their business. Drinks were ordered and paid for but never drank, we talked about what prom would be like and which parties we were going after. We left as a group and piled into the largest vehicle which happened to be Haye's van. It was loaded with an assortment of things. From liquors to drugs he was stacked. I knew Haye had a job but I didn't know it paid this well. I partake in a couple drinks and a blunt. We got to the school 30 minutes after prom began. We weren't the only ones with the idea of showing up fashionably late. It was packed, we ended up having to park a ways away from the school. We toppled out of the van and began to walk to the front entrance. Walking into the school was a trance. The school committee really put their all into this. The hallways were transformed. The theme had to be flower child or spring because flower petals were absolutely everywhere, hanging from the ceiling, covering the floors, filling every spot the eye could see. There were loads of streamers of warm colors hanging in spirals. It was a fairy dreamland. The actual prom was in the gymnasium, where they spared no expense. It was similar to the hallways except the foam decorations of grass and trees. The seats were made to look like mushrooms. At the stage was a local band. It was perfect. We started dancing as a group but it began to split off until there was only Haye's and I, a slow song started and I turned to sit it out but Hayes grabbed my arm. "One dance Marcella" he pleaded. I knew he always had a crush on me. It was a cute boy. Dangerous yet protective. I decided maybe tonight was the night to give him a chance. He pulled me in close as Norah Jones' "come away with me" blasted on the speakers. I wondered why the band stopped and peaked over to find them taking a break in the back corner of the room. I locked eyes with the drummer. Long shaggy brown hair hung in his face and his dark blue eyes were like a siren's call. I broke the contact and leaned into Haye. I smelled warm oak and the woods. I didn't know if that was his original scent or if he had ran through the forest before coming. It smelled almost like the latter. We swayed to the notes of the song. My body pressed against his that not even a piece of paper could fit between us. I felt secure in his arms. Like I could live there forever. I wish I had just stayed there, preotected from the world.
