When the spring branding was done and the cattle were free to roam the range, work on the new Golden Square ranch house began. Greg and Susan had moved from High Breaks to live in a luxury trailer in a corner of the backyard, so they were on hand to supervise the construction.
They had decided to build the new house on open ground to the west of the yard and buildings, giving the place a completely different outlook towards the western hills, rather than facing the lower-lying land that surrounded Hunters Creek. A team of builders dismantled the original house, sorting and stacking the materials for use on future projects. Susan wanted a fresh start: a new site, new stone, new woodwork, new everything.
