Episode 12: He Avoids Her

231 Words
For three days, Damian pretended I didn’t exist. No calls to his room. No orders. Nothing. Ava was still gone, but the other maids made it their mission to make my life hell. "The Alpha’s pet," they’d sneer. "Till he gets bored." I told myself I didn’t care. But on the fourth night, I saw him. He was on the rooftop again. Alone. A bottle of whiskey in his hand. He wasn’t drinking it. Just staring at the moon. I shouldn’t have gone to him. But my feet moved anyway. "Alpha?" He didn’t turn. "I told you to stay away from me." "You were hurting." "I don’t hurt." Lie. I sat down a few feet away. Not close. Just... there. "My mom died when I was 10," I said quietly. "I know what it’s like. To have ghosts." Damian finally looked at me. His eyes were red. Tired. "Don’t," he said. "Don’t make me like you." "Why not?" "Because I rejected you." He laughed, bitter. "Because the day I claim someone else as Luna, it’ll break you." The words hit me like ice water. "Then don’t claim anyone," I whispered before I could stop myself. Damian stood up so fast I flinched. "Don’t say things like that to me, Luna." He said my name again. And walked away. Leaving me on the roof with the moon... and hope I shouldn’t have.
