It was raining that night. I was on my knees scrubbing the hallway outside Damian's office when I heard voices. "He’s getting out of control, Alpha. The girl is just an Omega." It was Beta Marcus. "She rejected him in front of the whole pack," another voice said. "He has to make an example of her." My hands froze. They were talking about me. The office door opened. Damian stood there. He looked tired. His silver eyes landed on me instantly. "Are you eavesdropping?" he asked. I bowed my head. "No, Alpha. I was cleaning." "Then clean somewhere else." I scrambled to my feet and hurried away. But I was too slow. Strong hands grabbed my arm and pulled me into an empty storage room. The door shut. Damian. Rain was dripping from his hair onto my face. He backed me against the wall. "You’re hurt," he said. His voice was low. I shook my head. "I’m fine, Alpha." "Don’t lie to me." He reached out and brushed my hair aside. The bruises on my neck from Ava's grip last week were still there. Damian’s expression went dark. "Who did this?" My heart hammered. If I told him, Ava would make my life hell. If I didn’t... "I fell, Alpha." He stared at me for a long time. Then he leaned in close. I could smell pine and rain on him. "Luna," he whispered my name for the first time. Not "Omega". Not "servant". *Luna.* "Don’t lie to me again." Then he let go and walked out, leaving me shaking. He knew.
