Episode 10: Damian Checks On Her

236 Words
Midnight. I was asleep when my door creaked open. I sat up instantly. "Who’s there?" A shadow moved. "It’s me." Damian. He was standing in my room. In just sweatpants and a black t-shirt. His hair was damp. He looked... human. Not the Alpha. Just a man. "What are you doing here, Alpha?" My voice shook. "I heard you scream," he said simply. I touched my face. It was wet. I’d been crying in my sleep again. The nightmares about the rejection ceremony. Damian walked in and closed the door. He didn’t sit. He just stood there, watching me. "Are you hurt?" "No, Alpha." "The burns?" "They’re fine." He was quiet for a long time. Then he did something I didn’t expect. He pulled a small jar from his pocket. Burn ointment. "Give me your hand." I held it out, shaking. His fingers were warm as he dabbed the cool ointment on my wrist. So gentle. Nothing like the cold Alpha from the dining hall. "Why are you being nice to me?" I whispered. Damian’s hands stilled. "I’m not." "Then why are you here?" His silver eyes met mine. For a second, I saw it. Regret. Guilt. Loneliness. "Because nobody checked on me when I was hurting either," he said quietly. Then he stood up and left, closing the door softly behind him. Leaving me with burning skin... and a burning question. Who hurt the Alpha?
