Chapter 20 The lockdown alarm was fainter in the basement, competing with the high-pitched blare of a fire-alarm upstairs. I doubted anyone upstairs had even heard the gunshot. Quickly, I flipped the burner switch and the shelves swung shut behind me, hiding the inner door once more. I needed to think. The noise was making it impossible.
