Many of them were in docking bays, most of which had been converted to housing—strange rambling shanty towns thrown together to maximize use of the vertical spaces in the large docking bays. Those souls who weren’t in the bays were housed in crew quarters, and every bunk on the ship had been tripled or quadrupled, leaving the remaining crew rotating through quarters based on who was on duty. But even that hadn’t been enough, I noticed as I waded my way through people in the corridors, pushing past a sea of humanity to reach the bridge.
