She entered the premises and walked towards the reception. The place was huge and it was making her uncomfortable.
"And how can I help you?" the receptionist asked without any greetings
"I am here for the interview," Scarlet responded
"you here for the interview?" she asked looking at her suggestively to mean she didn't fit in that place
Scarlet ignored the tone and continued talking."Can you kindly show me where it is taking place," she asked
"Go straight then turned right," she said not looking at her
"Thank you, "Scarlet told her
She hated being in such places, she hated being treated badly. She just wanted to go back home and curl herself in her bed. But she couldn't. She was a fighter and had made a promise to her mama and she had to fulfill it.
She entered the waiting room and fitted on the far end. A lot of people were already there. As soon as she sat down, they started conversing amongst themselves laughing and looking at her.
" Are you here for the interview too?" one of the girls asked
"Yes, " I responded. They looked at each other and started laughing
"Are you even qualified? Look at your dressing code it's so pathetic," one of the girls said laughing
She didn't say a thing, she tried not to cry. One of the ladies went to where she was and made small talks to her.
"Don't mind them, that's what they did to me" she said
"It's fine, thank you," Scarlet responded
One after the other people were been interviewed.
Her turn came. she was so nervous but she tried to act fine.
She knocked at the door and entered. . There were three men and one lady. They all looked good. She greeted the interviewing officials with so much respect.
"Good morning to you, you can have a sit, Can I look at your resume please?"
Even though she knew she couldn't qualify for the job, she had applied for it and she was here in front of the interviewers being interrogated. She gave out her resume.
They went through it and one after the other as they asked her questions.
"You just finished high school, you didn't even go to university, what makes you think you can qualify for this job?" one man asked arrogantly
"I need a job right now sir. It's about my mother's health " Scarlet said
"This is a very big company we only work with qualified people," he responded
"I do understand but please I can do anything," Scarlet pleaded
" We are sorry but we don't have any vacant positions. But in case of anything, we will let you know."One of the ladies said "And I admire your courage despite the qualifications you still applied
" Thank you, madam," She said
She left the office feeling so discouraged. she decided to walk back home thinking of her next move
When she got home she found her mother preparing lunch.
" How was the interview," Her mother asked
"Very bad, " she said wiping her tears
"Don't cry, this isn't the end of the world ,"her mother said
" I know, but am tired of looking for a job every day, "Scarlet said
"I think you should go back to school,"
"How mother? We can't afford that right now."
"I'll find a way don't worry. Go and change let me set the table," she said
