Doe EyesONCE UPON A time, there was a queen who gave birth to a princess. Most queens do give birth to princes or princesses, really, except for a suspicious few (usually evil witches in disguise) who instead bear puppies, kittens, or blocks of wood. This queen was a good queen, however, so no one was very surprised when she bore a beautiful baby girl with one head, two arms, two legs, and just the right number of fingers and toes. In short, she was a perfectly perfect little princess in every way—until she opened her eyes.
Everyone in the birthing chamber was surprised then, when they saw that the infant princess had eyes that were large and expressive, like a doe’s; liquid and velvety soft-looking, like a doe’s—and completely brown from eyelid to eyelid, just like a doe’s.
