"FIRST ONE DOWN GETS THE SANTA'S GIFT FIRST!"
Liam's shout echoed through the house at exactly 6:47 AM, followed immediately by the thunder of footsteps.
Maya bolted out of her room, nearly colliding with Jess who was already in the hallway, hair wild, still in pajamas.
"Move, move, move!" Jess grabbed Maya's arm and they ran for the stairs.
Alex appeared from his room like he'd been shot out of a cannon. "Out of my way!"
"In your dreams!" Liam was already halfway down the stairs, taking them two at a time.
Ethan emerged last, moving slower but with longer strides that ate up the distance. Maya saw him out of the corner of her eye and pushed harder, her competitive spirit overriding everything else.
