Goodbyes and Surprises
The next morning arrived too quickly.
Jess's suitcase sat by the front door, already packed and ready. She'd be leaving before lunch, her train was at noon, and she still had to get to the station.
Everyone gathered in the driveway to see her off. The Uber was already on its way.
"You know you don't have to leave," Ethan said, hands shoved in his pockets and Maya standing next to him. "You could stay a few more days."
Jess smiled, slinging her bag over her shoulder. "I wish I could, but I have projects I'm working on. Deadlines don't care that it's the holidays."
"Adulting sucks," Liam said mournfully.
"It really does." Jess turned to Maya and pulled her into a tight hug. "Hey girl". "Text me everything. And I mean everything."
