CHAPTER 18 Spencer left the conservatory and took a walk down the street. He felt like that bird in the cage; the bird that he had permitted to fly away. He bought a couple of hamburgers from a chip shop and ate as he took a stroll around. With Susan away in hospital, Spencer actually felt an extremely marvelous release, quite like the bird that flew away. And like the bird that flew away, Spencer resolved to pursue new vistas, previously forbidden places. Spencer found himself in front of a seedy-looking pub called The Barking Dog.
