Chapter Twenty-TwoImmediately after leaving Forester's house, Rico dropped by to see Jean. She was recovering nicely from her encounter with Perry Brumfield. The swelling under her eye was almost gone, but a nasty bruise lingered. Her headaches and other aches and pains had also subsided. She had even forgiven herself for Brumfield's death. Despite his brutal attack on her, from the moment Rico found out, she had feared that he would kill Brumfield. She didn't mind Rico giving him a taste of his own medicine, or even forcing a bottleful down his throat. But killing him was a different story, at least after she'd had time to think about it.
