Helena's POV
Tears rolled down my eyes, my heart racing as I was dragged out of Romie's room back to the dungeon.
It was unbelievable how Romie changed overnight.
Romie, the person I thought loved me. The person I thought cared for me, treated me like trash.
I felt ashamed of myself.
I felt dirty.
I felt used and hurt.
How could Romie do this to me?
“You fool!” the warrior spat as he threw me to the ground, my hands hitting the ground. “You'll suffer for everything your dad did to us.”
He locked the door, leaving me in the darkness of the night.
My body trembled as I lay on the floor in the darkness, racing with many questions.
What was going to happen to me? Was I going to be stuck in the dungeon forever? Will I live all my life being humiliated like this?
I didn't know Romie's plans for me, but I know they're not good plans. It's clear he hates me so much.
But my feelings…
I wasn't sure how I felt about him.
I can't really say that I hate Romie. But my love for him was fading away already.
Or maybe I'm hurt. I'm in pain. Romie's recent behavior sucks, I can't bear it anymore.
“Oh moon goddess,” I prayed, my eyelids shut. “If my pain or death would bring peace to the hearts of those who have been hurt, let it be.”
I lay on the ground, waiting for sunrise - I didn't know what it had for me.
The dungeon was dark and quiet.
Save for the singing of some lonely sea-bird, no sound broke the quiet stillness of the night.
I could tell it was midnight already.
Just then, someone with a dim lamp stepped into the dungeon. I couldn't see his face.
“Who're you?” I asked, wondering if it was dawn already. “What's going on?”
“Shhh…” the figure muttered, dragging me by the hand and leading me outside the dungeon.
All the warriors guarding the dungeon and the warriors guarding the entire pack were fast asleep.
As we walked, I realized the figure was a woman, dressed in the pack maid's uniform.
“Take this,” she handed over a piece of paper to me. “The address is written there, go and hide there for now.”
“Who're you?” I inquired, my eyes narrowing as I tried to figure out the familiar voice. “And why are you helping me out?”
She bowed her head in reverence. “I'm your servant, Maiden Daisy…” she said, uncovering her face.
“Maiden Daisy?” I muttered, my eyes widening. “How… how…”
“You need to leave now, princess.” She interrupted, her eyes filled with concern. “That's the address of a safe house far away… you need to go before dawn. You'll be safe there.”
I looked at Maiden Daisy, my eyes filled with gratitude, tears rolling down my cheeks.
Why's Maiden Daisy helping me? She wasn't my personal maiden, and I wasn't really close to her. But I respect her alot.
Maiden Daisy is the oldest maiden in the palace. She served faithfully under my dad and is presently serving under Hector.
“Thank you, Daisy,” I whispered, my voice shaking.
A warm smile spread over her face as she hugged me.
“Go, princess,” She said, her gaze tender. “Make sure you take care of yourself.”
I nodded, sniffing softly as I waved her goodbye.
I couldn't believe I was finally free.
Was it real? Or was I dreaming?
I sighed in relief, smiling warmly, as I left the pack.
I felt hope.
As I walked a far distance away from the pack, the sky was beginning to lit up, replacing the darkness.
I had to move faster, realizing it was almost dawn.
I know that if Romie realizes my disappearance, he'll definitely come after me.
I didn't want to get caught, so I quickened my pace, my heart pounding.
I had this feeling that they were coming after me. In fact, it seems they're close.
I couldn't explain how I felt, but my hands began to tremble slightly as I walked.
I heard footsteps behind me, just as I began to get scared.
Was it my imagination? Maybe my mind was playing tricks with me.
But it didn't seem so….
I knew what I was hearing. They were real.
I turned around, my heart sinking.
It's really them. It wasn't my imagination - Romie's warriors were standing right before me.
“You think you can run?” One of the warriors scoffed as he stepped forward and grabbed my left hand.
I tried to struggle free, but the other warrior stepped forward and grabbed my right hand.
Together they dragged me back to the palace.
My heart pounded as we got to Romie's chamber. He was pacing around in a rage. It seemed he was thinking of my punishment.
“How dare you, Helena?” he spat, his eyes filled with wrath. You think you could escape?” He chucked coldly. “You're mine, Helena, and you can never be free.”
My eyes filled with tears as I looked at Romie, the reality of his words dawning on me.
I wasn't going to be free. I was forever caught in Romie's trap.
“You must pay for your actions.” he said, his eyes darted to Raph, his beta, before turning to me again.
I kept mute, my gaze downcast.
“Beta Raph,” he said, turning to Raph again. “Remind me, under Alpha Hector, what was the punishment for a runaway slave?”
“My alpha,” Raph muttered, his expression turning pitiful. “The punishment is 30 strokes with the silver whip.”
Romie shrugged. “30 strokes with the silver whip, that would take some skin off, wouldn't it?”
“Yes, my alpha,” he bowed gently. “Even our most fearsome warriors were made immobile after the punishment was delivered.”
“Well,” Romie chuckled coldly, his eyes darkened as he faced me. “Those were your father's rules.” He said, Jos' lips curling into a snare. “Do you, Helena Hector, accept this punishment?”
Maiden Daisy, who was standing just beside Romie, spoke up, her voice trembled slightly. “My alpha,”. She said, “she's not a warrior.”
“She's an alpha daughter.” he interrupted, looking straight into Helena's eyes. “I'm sure her Wolf would protect her.”
My heart skipped, knowing I had no Wolf, but I tried as much as possible not to show how afraid I was.
“Well,” Romie's hands flared up and dropped back. “If you beg me, I might just let you go free.”
It's obvious Romie was only looking for a way to make me crawl on my knees to beg, but I was determined not to.
I got up from my kneeling position, my eyes fixed on his. “I, Helena Hector, daughter of Alpha Hector, accept your punishment, Alpha Romie.” I said, my voice firm.
“No, Helena.” Daisy's voice cracked. “Please beg.”
My throat bobbed as I swallowed. I was afraid, but I was determined not to beg. Not after everything Romie has done to me.
He should beg me and not the other way round.
Romie's face fell, staring at me for a while.
He turned to Daphne. “Get a silver whip prepared, Daphne” he said to her.
Daphne, my worst enemy, was asked to prepare a silver whip. What's going to be my fate? Was it death calling?
“Helena will face the punishment first thing tomorrow morning. Inform the entire pack, they should watch Helena beg for her life.” Romie said in a sneer, his expression hard.
Tears rolled down my ears as I was dragged back to the dungeon.
Romie doesn't know I'm wolfless. Maybe if I tell him, he'll change the verdict.
But what difference would it make? He's hurt me a lot already… What am I living for?
It's better to die than continue to live in constant humiliation.
I laid all day in the dungeon, waiting for my death.
