CHAPTER FIFTY-TWO Georgie stirred and stretched out a foot to rub against Franklin’s. Reached further without striking any part of him, then cracked open her eyes. His side was empty. Amazingly, she’d slept, albeit not for long. And he’d left the bed. It wasn’t supposed to go that way. She pulled her fingers through her hair as she padded from the bedroom to the kitchen. His jacket, boots, gloves and helmet were gone. ‘Dad left half an hour ago.’ Georgie masked her dejection as Kat came from the hallway and joined her. ‘He woke me up to say goodbye.’ At least he’d done that for his daughter. But if the teen had slept, it’d only been briefly. Kat poked at the page fixed by magnets to the fridge. ‘He’s not rostered on today.’ ‘I don’t think we’re going to see much of him either way
