CHAPTER FIFTY-FIVE Franklin’s phone vibrated with a missed call while he left a message for Mrs Tesorino. He then contacted the hospital, asking for ICU. He was put through, and it rang six times before a female answered. His mobile received an SMS alert as he asked for the latest on Sam. The nurse told him practically nothing—‘Critical, no visitors except her parents’—harassed, needed elsewhere. She added, ‘Sorry,’ and hung up. Not even rank would get him in to see Sam this morning. He couldn’t fix her as he had the little boys. That made it vital for him to make headway today. He pulled on his helmet and steeled himself. Set to crank over the bike, he remembered the new message. He pulled off his lid and checked it. Georgie. Urgent. He’d be furious if she wanted to talk about feelings
