Ruby
My name is Ruby Lynn Boh. A pretty name, am I right? I have ruby red eyes, hence the name ruby, and long wavy white hair. Which isn't normal. I was born with a mutation in my DNA or so I have always been told. I was adopted by an old woman who had found me outside her bakery.I guess she had been there late that night prepping for the next day and when she came out there I was in the alley by the back door next to the trash. I guess my birth mom thought I was disgusting or something and took taking out the trash literally.
But hey what's it matter now? I grew up normalish I guess you could say. If you having to put contacts in to hide my eyes and wear wigs every day. For some reason my hair doesn't dye well sense the colors just wash out. But I understand the old woman just wanted to try and give me some semblance of an ordinary life. So here I am instead with brown eyes the color of s**t cause it hides the red of my eyes the best, with a wig full of ratty brown hair. I also wear thick rimmed glasses because the look I go for is the nerdy type. It works for me. I am a total nerd, always reading my normal books or manga because hey, the Japanese have got some good stuff there, even with their animes, those are amazing!
Anyways, let's get back on track. The old woman who adopted me was actually very wealthy and well off but had no family because they had all sadly died in plane crash. She would have died with them if she hadn't gotten sick and decided to stay behind. She had been by herself for years before she decided to open the bakery to give her something to do besides being depressed at home hating life. That's when I came in! She had already had the bakery for twenty years and had her routine down pat, and then I showed up and she couldn't leave me by myself. I was just a small baby who looked days old.
I am grateful to her she ended up selling the bakery because she was older and couldn' handle running a bakery and raising a growing child. There was a lot she did for me to let me have a good childhood and as a adult I am now able to realize everything she went through. I am not normal I know that and she knew that and despite that she raised me with love. Now lets get back to present day.
Her Grey gravestone staring at me as a stark reminder that I am alone and have no one else in this world makes me depressed. As I look up at the dark sky I feel a droplet of water fall on my face as a five second pre warning that its about to start down pouring. Down pouring its does I can't help but start laughing at the the stupidity of it all. Just a couple days ago she was fine with a slight cold and then I get the call she died from a heart attack and she already had the funeral planned like she knew she was going to die.
"Hey Ruby?" I hear as a warm hand clasps my shoulder. "Are you ok? do you need me to take you home?"I look over and see Max. He had been the butler sense before I had even been born. "Nah I am good Max I just needed a laugh and cry session real quick." I say while looking over to him and giving him a quick smile. "I won't be returning to the house for now I still have to get back to the school I still have classes tomorrow."
"Alright Ruby just let me know if you need anything and also here you go. He says while handing me a white envelope. This is from the old madam she wanted me to give you this and to tell you to keep your head up she was old and it was her time to go. She was tired and now she will get to see her husband and children again."
"Alright Max thank you for giving me this and for everything you have done for me and the old woman over all these years I will see you when I come to visit the house during the summer." I say while quickly giving Max a hug. I watch as he walks off to his car before I go and sit in my black 2015 Dodge Charger. I know not a car you expect from someone rich but hey I like it. I can't help but look at the envelope Max had given me wondering what the old woman could have possibly put in here that she couldn't give me herself or that she had to wait till she was gone to give me.
"Well what am I waiting for?" I mutter to myself before carefully tearing open the envelope and pouring the contents out on my lap.
