I reclined in my chair, letting out a stream of smoke that curled idly in the direction of the ceiling, while the brightness from my cigarette flickered in the dim light. It's already past midnight; my gaze stayed on her, and satisfaction flared deep within me. Her, naked and vulnerable in slumber on the sofa, was a living proof of my anger.
As I took another puff from my cigarette, my gaze drifted to the window. I have no intention of bedding her, but I won't tolerate anyone meddling with what's mine. My disdain for her runs deep; there's no doubt about it. Nonetheless, toying with her for a brief period doesn't sound like a terrible idea.
I planned to make her life a living hell after all.
My attention went to the door when I heard three knocks. Later, Clarita entered. She bowed to me for a moment, ignoring my lifeless staff on the floor.
"My lord, I heard you are calling me," she said.
With my hand holding a cigarette, I emotionlessly pointed in Irrah's direction. "Clean and dress her up. Tell Claudio to come here."
She bowed once more before leaving the room, returning later with spare clothes and cleaning supplies in hand. Claudio trailed behind her, his gaze fixed on me. Not once did he attempt to glance at Irrah as Clarita began to tend to her. Unable to resist, I smirked and resumed puffing on my cigar.
"Any news?" I simply asked.
He walked towards the front of my desk, then dropped the folder he was holding on top of it.
"Speak," I ordered.
"Based on the investigator's findings, the woman you currently have in custody lived in Italy for two years before returning to the Philippines with her family. After coming back, her father served as a governor, while her mother established a foundation dedicated to assisting children with heart conditions."
My teeth gritted while listening to Claudio's news.
I am right. She's Irrah.
"She really did spy on me," I stated icily, placing the cigarette harshly in the ashtray.
How dare she try to put an act in front of me? Did she really think she could fool me again? Stupida!
Claudio bowed down; maybe he couldn't handle the anger in my eyes. "M-My lord, the investigator also found out that . . . Ms. Zircon has a twin."
I was stunned and stared even more at him. "What did you say?"
"Iyyah Zircon, that's her twin's name. Ms. Iyyah lived in Italy for a long time but died in a car accident three years ago. I-I think she's really the girl you're looking for," Claudio continued with an evident fear in his voice.
I frowned and grabbed the papers on the table. I violently scanned them. Every detail of her family was exposed to me: Raphael Zircon, Melisa Zircon, Iyyah Zircon, and the girl who fvcking betrayed me—Irrah Zircon.
"This doesn't make sense. Are you sure this information is correct?" I have a threatening question.
Claudio swallowed and then nodded softly. "According to Mrs. Zircon's previous interview, she mentioned that the reason why she built a foundation to support children with heart disease is because her daughter, Irrah, also had the same disease. The reason why they went to Italy is for her heart transplant."
I was speechless, captivated by the written details pertaining to Irrah that he had mentioned. My mind, seemingly paralyzed, ceased to process information. I cannot believe it. I do not believe. Impossible.
I lifted my gaze and directed it towards the woman sleeping on the sofa. Clarita had just finished attending to her. Even from across the room, I could discern the reddened patches on her skin, evidence of the rough treatment she had endured at my hands. Her words echoed in my mind once more, along with her cries and repeated insistence that she was not the woman I had accused her of being.
I harbor no remorse. Regardless of whether she's the Irrah who once betrayed me, their veins carry the same blood. However, an unsettling annoyance lingers within me. My anger simmered, directionless, leaving me unsettled and uncertain of where to focus it.
I closed my eyes tightly and dropped the paper I was holding. "Are they sure that fvcking Iyyah is dead?" I asked coldly and opened my eyes.
Claudio nodded. "The investigator double checked all the details on the papers before he brought them here."
My jaw tightened, rendering me silent. With a dismissive wave of my hand, I signaled them to leave. Without hesitation, they complied, leaving Irrah and me alone in my office again.
A few minutes passed, and I still stayed in my swivel chair. I tried to put everything together, but I couldn't get the answer. Or the answer is right in front of me, but I don't want to accept it.
I balled my hands tightly and turned to face the woman lying on the couch again. I got to my feet and moved towards her. When I stopped in front of her, I gave her a thorough examination. I ran my eyes over every inch of her body.
I can't be wrong.
Still unsatisfied, I coldly lifted her shirt, searching for the evidence that could confirm her identity as Irrah, the woman I despised. I had glimpsed it earlier, but I needed to see it again to reassure myself that my suspicions were valid and that I was correct in my judgment.
For the nth time, my jaw clenched again as I found it under her breast.
"If she's not you, why the hell do you have the same tattoo?" I spat, controlling the rage that was slowly consuming me.
My gaze fixated on her face as she began to groan softly. She gently folded in on herself, wrapping her arms around her knees, prompting me to release my grip on her clothes. Her expression conveyed both discomfort and chill.
Exhaling deeply, I scooped her up into my arms and carried her to her room. As I laid her down on the bed, her arms remained draped around my neck, a silent plea for comfort and support.
"Mommy..." eyes closed, she grunted while there were tears on the side of them.
I just stared at her coldly. Yes, twins can look alike. Yes, she may not be the girl I'm looking for. But . . .
If you are not Irrah, then why the fvck do you have my name inked on your skin?
