I tried to approach the two of them, Ryan and my wife. But as soon as Keycee sensed my footsteps, she suddenly pulled away from Ryan and circled behind him to hide, continuing to cry.
“Wait!” Ryan extended his hand in front of him, signaling me to stop as he noticed me taking another step forward. “I don’t know what’s going on, but Keycee is scared. Just stay there for a moment.” After saying that, he turned to face my wife. He wrapped his arms around her, gently rubbing her back, just like I always did to soothe her.
It hurt to see that, especially since it should have been me comforting her. But how could I do that when I was the very reason she was in such distress?
All I could do was stand there and watch my wife being consoled by someone else.
