The celebration lasted three days.
Wolves came from every pack to honor their queen. They brought gifts—jewels, furs, ancient weapons. They brought stories of their battles and hopes for the future.
I smiled through all of it.
But inside, I was waiting.
Kael had fled. He'd been defeated, humiliated, stripped of his claim. But I knew he wasn't done. A wolf like him doesn't give up that easily.
And I was right.
---
On the fourth night, Lila burst into my chambers.
"Raven." She was out of breath, her face pale. "There's someone here. A messenger. He says he knows what Kael is planning."
I was on my feet instantly. "Bring him to the throne room."
---
The messenger was a young wolf, barely old enough to fight. He knelt before me, trembling.
"Your Majesty," he said. "I served in Kael's camp. I escaped to warn you."
"Warn me about what?"
"Kael went to the Northern Alliance. He made a deal with them." The messenger's voice shook. "He told them the truth about the prophecy. The real prophecy."
I leaned forward. "What do you mean?"
"Your mother told you the prophecy was about uniting the packs. But that's not what the original prophecy says. The original prophecy is about destruction. It says the Silvermoon heir will destroy the packs, not unite them. It says you are the one who will end the werewolf race."
The room went silent.
"That's impossible," Silas said sharply. "That's not what the prophecy says."
"The prophecy your mother gave you was altered. She changed it to protect her daughter." The messenger looked at me. "Kael found the original. He's going to use it to turn the packs against you. He's already convinced the Alliance to support him."
I stood up. "And what do you think? Do you believe I'm a destroyer?"
The messenger hesitated.
"I believe," he said carefully, "that you are the queen. But I also believe the packs will fear you when they learn the truth."
---
I found my mother in the garden.
She was sitting by the fountain, staring at the water. She looked older than I remembered. Weaker.
"Mom."
She looked up. "You've heard."
"Tell me it's not true."
She was silent.
"Mom. TELL ME."
"Raven—"
"All this time. All the fights. All the deaths. You knew." I felt the rage building, the betrayal burning in my chest. "You knew the prophecy was about destruction, and you let me believe I could save everyone."
"I did what I had to do."
"You LIED to me!"
"I PROTECTED you!" She stood, her eyes blazing. "If I had told you the truth, you would have given up. You would have let the Alliance kill you. You would have let them destroy everything we've built."
"I had a right to know!"
"Your right to know doesn't matter," she said fiercely. "Your survival matters. Your destiny matters. And I'll be damned if I let some ancient prophecy destroy my daughter's future."
I stared at her.
"Is it true?" I whispered. "Am I going to destroy the packs?"
"I don't know." Her voice cracked. "The prophecy isn't clear. It says the Silvermoon heir will destroy the packs. But it doesn't say how. It doesn't say when. It doesn't say if."
"Then I could—"
"You could do anything." She stepped closer. "That's the point, Raven. The prophecy doesn't control you. YOU control the prophecy. You decide what happens."
"How? How do I stop it?"
"By being a good queen. By earning the wolves' trust. By showing them you are not a destroyer—you are a protector."
I looked at her.
"You should have told me," I said.
"I should have." She reached for my hand. "I'm sorry, Raven. I'm so sorry."
I wanted to stay angry. I wanted to scream and rage and demand answers.
Instead, I hugged her.
"Mom," I said. "From now on, no more secrets. Promise me."
"Promise." She held me tight. "No more secrets."
---
We gathered the pack leaders the next morning.
I stood in the throne room, my mother beside me, Silas at my back. Lila was in the crowd, her eyes bright with worry.
"Wolves of Silvermoon," I said. "I have called you here because I must tell you the truth."
Murmurs rippled through the crowd.
"I know about the prophecy," I said. "The real prophecy. The one that says I will destroy the packs."
The crowd erupted.
I raised my hand. "SILENCE."
They went quiet.
"I know what the prophecy says. But I don't believe it. Because I am more than a prophecy. I am more than a bloodline. I am Raven Blackwood, and I have spent the last year fighting for you. Bleeding for you. Dying for you."
I stepped forward.
"I am not here to destroy you. I am here to lead you. To protect you. To build a future that doesn't end in fire and ash."
I looked at the crowd.
"If you believe in me, stand with me. If you don't, you are free to leave."
Silence.
And then one wolf stepped forward.
Then another.
Then another.
Soon, the entire room was on its feet, howling my name.
"RAVEN! RAVEN! RAVEN!"
I looked at Silas. He was smiling.
"You did it," he said.
"We did it," I corrected. "All of us."
I looked at the crowd. At the wolves who had chosen me.
And I knew, in that moment, that the prophecy was wrong.
I would not destroy the packs.
I would save them.
