Chapter 8: Damien's Sample Missing

1058 Words
Damien's POV At Royal City, Dakota Mansion. It was getting to dusk, and I had a few things I needed to clear before I could leave my study. My phone rang and I shifted my gaze to my phone lying on the table. I stared at the name flashing on the screen, and it was my father. I answered the call. "Hello Damien?" I heard my father say as soon as I answered the call. "Hello Father," I replied. "How is the preparation for your marriage coming?" Alpha Leo asked. "Father, there is no reason to rush things. The company need attention. We have a new employee coming in and a new project ongoing," I explained, but my father cut. "Damien, the marriage is not just any type of ceremony. This is to maintain peace. You may be the heir now, but you know your position as president is being threatened, and you know the one championing this threat. The marriage will resolve all of this, and you are dragging your feet about it," Alpha Leo said angrily. "What is your problem? The girl in question is your mate. So what is the delay for?" he questioned. "How long will the ceremony take that you can't work and get that done at the same time?" he questioned. "Dad, I understand. I just need time to put everything in place, and the marriage can happen," I replied. "As you rightly Victoria is my mate. That alone is something. That should calm Demitri," I said. "She is your mate. So go ahead and marry her. Unite the pack and let us be one family. Family do not fight each other," Alpha Leo said. I realised there was no point dragging this conversation on, so I decided to stop arguing with him. "I have heard you. I will start making preparations for that," I said. "Now that is what I want to hear," Alpha Leo said. "Let me know if you need help with anything. I am thinking we can do this by the end of this month. Two weeks to prepare," he added. "Dad, please allow Victoria and me to fix our date and communicate it to you," I said. "Fine," Alpha Leo said, and the call ended. Victoria is my mate, but we are so different. Aside from a mate bond we share, there is nothing we like about each other. I have to find a surrogate because Victoria has no plans of bearing my cubs. The idea of having a family is not part of the things she wants to do. I want a mate who will rule with me, but she just wants to roam the world and order people around. She is a spender. Spending is her hobby. Every new release, she wants it. The more expensive they are, the better. Unfortunately, I can't reject her, because Alpha Demitri will start a war. I heard a knock on my door, and I invited the person in. Michael walked in and stopped a distance away from my desk. I pulled a file and started going through it without bothering to look at Michael. "Michael, what is it?" I asked. "Alpha, I just received a report that," Michael began and paused. "Spit it out, Michael," I ordered impatiently, my eyes fixated on the document in front of me. "Your sample went missing," Michael said in one breath, and I immediately paused. I slowly lifted my head and stared at Michael, my anger evident in my eyes. "What did you just say?" I questioned, my voice expressing my anger as I raised my head to stare at Michael. "Er, you know how you put something in a place and later you check, and it's not there," Michael stammered. "It happened to your sample," he said quickly with an explanation that made me sound like I didn't know what something going missing meant. I calmed myself and rather tried to find out what happened. "How did that happen?" I questioned angrily. "I am not exactly sure, but I am looking into it," Michael replied quickly, and I almost hissed at his response. "You have 10 minutes to find out what happened to my sample," I half yelled, staring angrily at Michael. "Yes, Alpha. In the meantime, what should I tell the surrogate?" Michael said. "She is still in Pearl City, at the Health and Wellness General Hospital," he added. I didn't like the woman chosen as my surrogate, but I said nothing because my mate brought her. I am glad it didn't happen, but I also wanted to know what happened to my sample. "Pay her off and tell her if we need her, we will call her," I said, "Now find out what happened to my sample," I added, and Michael left immediately. I stood up from behind my desk, in deep thought. I was wondering what happened. How did my sample go missing? Michael returned to my study in ten minutes. I shoved my hands into my pockets, waiting for him to tell me what happened. "Alpha, from what I found out. Your sample was injected into someone mistakenly. I understand the person posed as your surrogate," Michael said, and I frowned. "A human girl," he added. "What!" I growled, slamming my hand on the table angrily. I hated humans. I just tolerate them because I am the president. I was already thinking of a punishment for this fraudster when Michael spoke again. "She is pregnant as we speak," Michael said, and I stared at him with a frown, processing what he had just said. "That is impossible. No human can get pregnant by the seed of a wolf," I said, moving away from my desk and collecting the document from Michael. "Who is she?" I asked as I quickly went through the document. "Her name is Ariana Brown. A 21-year-old orphan from Pearl City," Michael reported, and I lifted my gaze to stare at Michael. "I want her here by 6 a.m. tomorrow," I said and placed the document on my table. "Yes, Alpha," Michael said and exited my office immediately. I picked up the document again, staring at the picture of the girl. Who are you, and how is it that you are pregnant from my seed? I said, staring at the picture on the document.
