The cold bite of the metal tugged against my ankles as I moved, the ever-present chains clinking along behind me like an unwanted shadow. When I reached the bathroom, I left the door cracked open, annoyed at the necessity. Everyone knows you don’t shower with the door open basic horror movie survival instinct. But with these chains, I didn’t really have a choice. I peeled off my clothes and stepped into the shower, letting the heat soothe the tension in my muscles. The water ran down my back, washing away the stickiness of the day. The steam curled around me, comforting, but it couldn’t drown out the metallic clatter of the chains as they shifted against each other every time I moved.
