Lyra stood completely still.
The words of the old woman echoed in her mind.
The Moon Goddess never accepted his rejection.
She looked at Kael.
For years, she had believed the bond between them had been destroyed the night he rejected her.
Now she wasn’t sure what to believe.
Kael took a careful step toward her.
“Lyra…”
“Don’t.”
He stopped.
“You rejected me in front of the entire pack,” she said. “You told everyone I wasn’t good enough to be your Luna.”
Kael’s expression tightened.
“I was wrong.”
“That doesn’t erase what you did.”
“No,” he admitted. “It doesn’t.”
For once, there was no command in his voice.
Only regret.
“I thought I was protecting my kingdom,” he continued. “There were things I knew that you didn’t.”
Lyra frowned.
“What things?”
Kael hesitated.
Before he could answer, the old woman stepped between them.
“You are not ready to hear everything.”
Lyra turned toward her.
“Why does everyone keep saying that?”
“Because the truth could put you in greater danger.”
Kael looked at the old woman.
“What are you hiding from her?”
The old woman stared at him.
“The same thing your father once tried to bury.”
Kael’s expression changed.
“My father?”
Before the old woman could explain, Lyra suddenly gasped.
The silver mark on her wrist began to glow.
A powerful warmth spread through her body.
Kael staggered at the same moment.
He grabbed his chest.
The bond.
It was stronger now.
Lyra could feel his emotions as clearly as her own.
Regret.
Fear.
Confusion.
And something deeper.
Something that frightened her more than anger ever could.
Love.
She immediately pushed the feeling away.
“No.”
Kael looked at her.
“What?”
“I can feel you.”
His eyes widened.
“So can I.”
The old woman stepped backward.
“The bond is becoming active again.”
Lyra shook her head.
“I don’t want this.”
Kael’s voice softened.
“Neither do I understand it.”
“Then leave me alone.”
“I can’t.”
“Why?”
Kael looked into her eyes.
“Because every part of me is telling me that losing you was the greatest mistake I have ever made.”
Lyra’s heart betrayed her with a single painful beat.
Before she could respond, a loud explosion shook the temple.
The doors burst open.
Shadow Pack warriors rushed inside.
Kael immediately drew his sword.
“Stay behind me.”
Lyra looked at him.
“No.”
She stepped forward.
“I can fight.”
Kael stared at her for a moment, then nodded.
“Then fight beside me.”
Together, they faced the attackers.
Silver energy surrounded Lyra while Kael moved beside her with his sword raised.
For the first time, they fought as partners.
But neither of them noticed the figure watching from the broken doorway.
Darius.
His eyes narrowed as he watched the silver energy connecting them.
“So the forbidden bond has awakened.”
He smiled.
“Now I know exactly how to destroy them.”
And deep inside Lyra’s mind, the Moon Goddess whispered one final warning.
One of you will betray the other.
Lyra’s heart froze.
But she didn’t know whether the betrayal would come from Kael…
or from herself.
