Chapter 4

455 Words
“I-is that gunshot?” I asked, my eyes wide. My heartbeat trippled as I stood up from my seat. I was terrified and flabbergasted. Beatrix, who was in front of me dropped the brush she was holding out of anxiousness. Cambria, however, whom I set my eyes on next, didn’t speak a word and just ran towards the door the moment she probably realized something was going on. I was clueless, and nervous. But what scared me was the possibility of us in danger. I followed Cambria. Both Beatrix and I moved our feet to get to where everyone else was in. We were clueless, and scared. Whilst the eerie screams from outside continued, we were making our way to figure out what it was that started it. “W-w-what’s happening?” Beatrix asked, stuttering. I couldn’t spare her a glance. I was pre-occupied. And though I knew I heard her, I wasn’t able to answer Beatrix. I was shocked. It was like terror had engulfed my whole system that all I could do was follow my own body without a straight and clear thing in mind. I had questions. I wanted to know who it was, and why it came. But those became the list of my concern as soon as we reached the kitchen where Cambria led us. “Duck, quick!” Oz ordered us the second our eyes came in contact. “Conceal, Cambria. Hold Orphis! Now!” I immediately followed him. I ducked and scraped the floor. Cambria, who was told by Oz to hold me moved backward to hold me. I still had no idea what was happening. But each passing second was hell. The simultaneous noise from outside was terrifying! I shut my eyes tight. I was quivering. My hands were. “Do… do you think they’re a terrorist?” I asked, barely above a whisper. I turned my head to where Cambria was positioned. “W-what if they see—” My lip closed as soon as I heard another gunshot. Clearer this time, like it was just right beside our house. I bit my bottom lip. My other hand automatically covering my mouth as if I have made a mistake. “They’re right on time.” I heard Martin whispered. “Where did you think they got the information?” “D-do you know them?” It was Beatrix. “I-is this a prank you guys prepared for Orphis?” “Shut up, girly.” Oz grumbled. “Do you have your phone with you? Text your dad for help.” “W-what? H-he’s not here!” Beatrix replied in a shaky tone. “Andy!” “I’m doing it!” I opened my eyes.
