CHAPTER ELEVEN You take the tram from the train station to the Südvorstadt area of town where the party is. It’s raining, and the westerner suggests taking a taxi. “I’ll pay,” he says. “Taxis here go where they want, not where you want,” you laugh, guiding him over to the tram stop. The only way a taxi driver will take you to the Südvorstadt is if the westerner bribes him with Deutschmarks, and you don’t want to suggest that. You jump into the last car of the tram and steer the westerner to the back window.
