Steven’s POV
"Steven, clean up this trash! I've been telling you for so long! Thankfully, you have a handsome face, so at least I can still be mesmerized by your beautiful smile!"
I'm used to hearing the laughter from the women sitting in the backyard. They always tease me and shout things I've already done. The trash they pointed to was just an empty bottle they could have thrown away themselves.
"You're handsome, and they're too embarrassed to approach you because you're an omega who was just rejected by your mate. Growl!"
My wolf, Reign, seemed happy, his howl gave me shivers. I mean, he's a mischievous wolf that always teases me when I'm facing the girls.
"Although I hate her, are you okay, Steven? I know how you feel about Becca. Even though I can't stand her, your heart can't turn away from her beauty, right?"
I chose the long bench in the corner of the backyard, not far from where the girls were gathered, as my spot to rest. Actually, this is my favorite place to relax after spending the day cleaning this big luxurious mansion.
One thing that still makes me happy to be a member of this pack, even though Becca is an annoying alpha female, is that I still have a chance to spend time with myself. They don't treat me too badly, it's just their words and insults that I don't consider a big deal.
The most annoying one in this pack is Becca's mate, Andrew. I know, maybe he's entitled to be arrogant or abusive because he's a cool alpha from one of the strongest packs in the area. Moreover, from what I've heard, if they marry, these two big packs, Black Dust and Fire Blood, will merge into one. I'm a hundred percent sure that Andrew will be even more arrogant and conceited if that happens. And, of course, I understand that my life won't be peaceful, as it's clear who will be bullied - us, the omegas.
"You don't have to be humble all the time, Steven. You know, I really hate it when you're oppressed. You should just show your strength. There's nothing wrong with an omega being strong. Since when were omegas considered wolves with extremely weak abilities? Anything can happen!"
Well, what my wolf says is true. When I was a kid, Beta Gabriel saved me. He asked Becca's parents to give me a chance to live. And when Becca's parents entrusted her to be the only alpha female in our territory until she found her mate, I was still asked to join this pack, even though I knew Becca probably didn't want to accommodate me. Everything had its reasons; actually, I'm not a weak omega with no abilities like some of the omegas in this pack. Most of them find it difficult to fight, but I have that strength. However, because I was considered to have no family, I was never given the opportunity to train or show my strength.
I've heard Becca objecting to her parents to bring omegas. She said she wanted Black Dust's pack to be the first pack without omegas, like an exclusive pack where all members are strong. Unfortunately, she forgot that trivial tasks would not be done by anyone other than omegas like us.
But even if he knew I had decent strength, I don't think he would accept me. He would surely use the 'family' excuse. I still remember how panicked and angry he looked when he found out I was his mate.
"Wow, Black Dust really is a world for omegas, huh?!"
My gaze was disrupted by Andrew's arrival. What does he want? Of course, I had to get up from my comfortable position.
"Alpha Andrew, is there something I can help you with?"
"Nothing, sit down. I just want to talk to you." The smile Andrew gave me seemed to hide something.
"If he tries to oppress you, just hit him! Somehow, there's something suspicious, and I sense negative energy, Steven!"
Reign is sensitive to Andrew, but what my wolf is saying does make some sense. It's not usual for Andrew to come and want to sit next to me. He's one of the alphas who upholds the caste system, and although he doesn't want to remove omegas from his pack like Becca wanted to do, he still looks down on and disdains omegas.
It's no wonder that the omegas in his pack are so thin and weak; they often eat leftovers and are only given very short rest periods.
"So, you're saying you knew Becca was your mate a month ago, why did you keep silent? What are you planning, Steven?"
I furrowed my brow and shook my head. "There's nothing, Alpha Andrew. It's all a misunderstanding. I dare not speak about this mate thing, that's why I chose to stay silent."
"Nonsense, it's clear that this is all your plan, isn't it? You're an omega, and Becca is the strongest alpha female in our territory. I'm sure you're scheming or practicing dark magic with her! An omega getting a great woman like Becca? You must be joking."
I rarely get emotional, but this time, I couldn't hold it in. I stood up and raised my voice while answering his statement. "Well, I think it's all clear. She already rejected me, and I'm not a fool who wants to use dark magic just for a mate. I'm not that pathetic, Alpha Andrew. If you have nothing else to say, you better leave because you're disturbing my rest."
"I'm disturbing you? How dare you, Steven! Your mouth is so audacious to say that. Okay, you may not think you did it, but I don't believe it at all. Sooner or later, I'll prove that you orchestrated the mate bond between you and Becca. You're a loser who undoubtedly wants glory, and you probably see your handsome face as an added value to attract beautiful women in this pack. Wake up, Steven! Trash will always be trash!"
Andrew gave a sinister smile, and I don't know why my emotions suddenly exploded. Without realizing it, I transformed into a wolf and suddenly attacked him.
"ARGH!"
Hysterical screams from pack members and cries of pain from Andrew now fill my ears.
