Then I went back, staring at Eve’s dead body. She was gone, my mate. I was alive. Why did it have to turn out this way, I groaned mentally. Why had it not ended for me too? There might not be a Heaven for robots. But there was a Hell—earth. It had begun to rain. I knelt motionless beside Eve’s broken form. There would have to be a funeral, burial, all that.
