I had locked my eyes on him with an angry expression. Last night, I had taken a complicated route, first going to a random hotel, changing my appearance there, and only then reaching my home. It was impossible for a normal person to expose me! But of course, he had found me. The man was probably a wolf! I muttered to myself through clenched teeth. Oh God, and on top of that, he was making hand gestures as if he was calling for Fifi the dog. My nerves were completely strained; I was on the verge of exploding. I walked up to him with firm steps and, with the same sternness on my face, said: “I guess you wanted to try your luck again because I didn’t like your elementary school performance. But what is this? Did you want to play ‘Lion run, mouse catch,’ Mr. Emir? Nice try, but I didn’t enjoy it.” A sly smile appeared on his lips. “Compared to your performance, I know I’m rather inadequate,” he said in a mocking tone. “But I’m glad you liked this little show. As for making sure you enjoy yourself I’ll do my best, believe me.” At that point, my patience had run out. The man had found my house. But did he also know my identity? I locked my eyes on his and snapped harshly: “Cut the chatter! I don’t know what your problem is, but I’m late for work. Now move your car and get lost!” His mocking expression grew sharper. He was clearly enjoying my anger. “What was that phrase of yours?” he said. “Ah, yes! Let’s summarize the situation, shall we? Yes, let’s. You don’t have a registered residence under your name. All your bills are under your landlord’s. Your car is registered under a rental and a stage name. It’s clear you’ve been making great efforts to hide yourself. So let me ask you this: What kind of woman lives like that?” I froze for a moment. Just as I suspected. The man was a professional at this. My instincts hadn’t failed me. He was definitely from that team! I had to think fast. What would I do, where would I go for work? At once, our last case came to mind. I couldn’t waste a second if I wanted to move. “I don’t owe you any explanations. Get out of my way and let me through,” I growled. His gaze was practically challenging me. The twisted smile on his lips showed just how much he enjoyed provoking me. “Then I’ll see you after work, ma’am,” he said. With two quick steps, he opened his car door. But before leaving, he turned back and uttered that damned sentence: “Oh, by the way… Will you take another extra ten kilometers and stop by a hotel to change disguises this time? Or will you head straight to work? Well… my men will pick you up exactly where you are. Don’t worry.” How could he say that so casually? My nerves were trembling, and I tried to keep my hands from clenching. I didn’t say a single word, only shot him a hard stare. I knew that if I acted the way he wanted, he would win. He got into his car and drove off with the growl of the engine. But I knew… this wasn’t over. I quickly rummaged through my bag and pulled out the line I used for prosecution work. I called Bora. As the phone rang, I noticed in the side mirror a car was following me. They didn’t even bother to hide. They were openly on my tail. Bora’s voice on the line startled me. I had almost forgotten I was calling. “Hey, hello my beautiful prosecutor! Missed me this early already?” he said in that familiar cocky tone. “Bora, cut the nonsense! I’m in trouble!” “What? What do you mean in trouble? Prosecutor, are you alright?” His voice instantly turned serious. “I’m fine. But listen to me carefully now. Emir Kara has found my house. He realized there’s nothing registered under my name. He’s questioning my profession and identity. Do you remember the woman from our last case?” “Yes, of course I do.” “Good. You need to turn me into her. How do we do this?” Bora spoke as if he had planned this a hundred times before. “That office is still registered and active. Go straight to her office. I’m activating the Intelligence team. Everything will be ready fake ID, phone, documents. The moment you step into the office, the transformation will be complete. Then you’ll greet your new identity: Alev Parlak.” “Alright,” I said. Even I was surprised by the determination in my voice. “But no mistakes, Bora. Emir is the king of this city’s underworld. This thread leads to the big fish.” “Don’t worry, prosecutor. My full attention is on you.” I hung up. My mind was in chaos. In the side mirror, I could still see the car following me. My hands gripped the steering wheel tightly. I took a deep breath and pressed down on the gas pedal. I had only one goal: Reach the office… As if I had been coming to the same office for forty years, I parked the car with ease, greeted the shopkeepers on the street with a smile, shared quick nods, and hurried my steps. Soon enough, I entered the office. Just as Bora had said, a five-person team greeted me inside the inner door. In the blink of an eye, they swept me for devices bugs, just in case. Then the woman leading the team stepped forward. She was tall, with a fit figure. Her dark chestnut hair fell onto her shoulders, and the sharp expression in her eyes radiated professionalism. She wore a black suit elegant but practical enough not to hinder movement. Without averting her stern gaze from me, she spoke: “Hello, Prosecutor. I’m Leyla Aslan. We are your team for this new mission. Are you ready?” I nodded with gratitude. “Of course, let’s begin.” Leyla gave me a brief smile. “The case is yours, Madam Prosecutor. However, your knowledge about the woman involved is limited,” she said. “That’s true,” I replied. She continued speaking. “I know the convict underwent frequent cosmetic surgeries for two years, each time disappearing with a new identity.” “Yes, that’s accurate,” Leyla confirmed. Then she gestured toward a meeting room ahead. “If you’ll allow me, I’ll share the details.” When we entered the meeting room, the lights dimmed slightly, and a presentation screen lit up. Leyla pointed to the first image on the screen and began to explain: “Alev Parlak. This was the last name she used. She had a wide network of hospitals and doctors across the country. Our team still hasn’t identified many of them; her connections are strong and deeply hidden. She promised her clients completely new identities: a true transformation. By using the identities of missing persons, she created official medical records for surgeries. That way, it appeared as if the person had undergone surgery and assumed a new identity. In reality, she provided both a new face and a legally certified identity. To go further, thanks to her international ties, she could completely erase her clients’ trails.” “A sentence was issued against her, and during her transfer to a high-security prison, she attempted to escape. My team carried out the execution. However, her acquaintances believe the execution was faked. And to be frank, it is highly likely they will see you as her replacement.” I thought for a moment. Leyla’s detailed and calm explanation intrigued me. I lifted my eyes from the file on the table and turned to her. “Excellent work,” I said. “While I’m hiding from Emir Kara, if anyone takes the bait because of this fake identity, not only will I be evading him, but we’ll also gather more information about this network. Bingo!” Leyla smiled faintly. “In that case, we can start immediately, Prosecutor. Our plans are ready.” I crossed my arms over my chest and turned to Leyla. “Alright, everyone, let’s begin.”
