Jake’s cell phone rang at a little past three o’clock, just as he was passing a Utah town on Highway 90 with the crazy name of Panguitch. Who or what a Panguitch was, he had no idea; he was just glad that soon he’d be on I-15 and able to get up to a decent cruising speed of seventy-five miles an hour. A glance down at the screen told him it was Connor calling, and for a second or two, he wondered if he should ignore the phone and let the call roll over to voicemail. For all he knew, Jeremy had decided to rat him out to the primus, and Connor was reaching out to tell Jake he was on a fool’s errand and that he needed to turn around and come straight back to Flagstaff.
