A New Day

The sound of the rooster crowing this morning was not how I intended to be woken up. I had forgotten about that annoying rooster who doesn't know when to be quiet and enjoys chasing me every chance he gets. Hopefully he didn't get the memo I’m back or won’t remember me, hahaha. As I am lying in my large queen bed with its pillow top mattress and goosedown pillows scrolling through social media. Bang! Bang! Jackson runs and jumps on my bed. ‘Hey sis!” “Have you still not learned how to knock as an adult?” I throw a pillow at him. He catches and says “Nope!” and laughs. “Anyways, get up and let's go. Everyone is waiting on us.” “I’m sorry, who? What? Where? I’m still half asleep and I don't want to move today. “The whole crew is heading to the beach at Palmetto to hang out. Camping, grilling, bonfire later tonight. Wait, have you forgotten this tradition that we do in the Summer?” “No, of course not. Just didn't realize as adults, that was still happening. Not sure if I am up for it though. I really have to finish getting settled before Monday. You know dad! He isnt going to let things slide just because I’m “adjusting” to being back home.” “Ah, come on Sam! First weekend back after forever. Don’t disappoint!” Now I am getting the big brown puppy eyes and is literally begging. “Ugh, fine! Give me ten!” All I heard after was Jackson rushing out of my room yelling with excitement. Even though he is older, I suspect I am the maturer one of the two. Now what to wear and bring. Heading into the bathroom, I wash my face and brush my teeth. Decide to be make-up free today. Not that I wear much most days, but it's a day for water and sun! I dig through my luggage to find my favorite bathing suit. Black bandeau top with matching black bottoms, covered in silver lace design. Cute and classy! Throw my cover up on and put my dark hair half back with a clip. Grabbing a change of clothes for later and I hear my mama stating she has my beach bag packed with all the essentials. I ran downstairs and hug her! “Thanks mama! “You’re welcome sweetie. Now y'all don't get too rowdy today and call if you need anything. Be safe!” “Will do Mama. Love you - bye” I walk outside to see Mia is already here with some other friends, Dawn and Jenny. The boys just finished loading up the trucks, so it looks like it's time to roll out. I ride with Jackson, Lucey along with Dawn and her boyfriend. Mia rode with her long-time crush Dylan, along with Jenny and her new beau. It's about an hour drive, so we sing loudly to some old jams, crack jokes, and have fun like there was no care in the world. What I did not know was I would have too many things to care about before the day ended.
