Something woke Robert from a deep sleep. Utterly confused about where he was, he looked at the radium-painted dial on his navy issue wristwatch: 00530—half five in the morning. His hand reached out to the bedside lamp and after a brief fumble, he turned it on. Padding to the bathroom barefoot, he locked the door and while using the toilet, found the allure of the large white tub and curtained shower compelling. With a quick decision, he stripped off the borrowed pajamas, turned on the water, and took a short but powerfully hot shower. Toweling himself off, he pulled the pajamas back on and wiped the fogged mirror to examine his angry rash.
