THE MOMENT SHE SAW his wings she knew. The realization stunned her. She took a few deep breaths and hoped against hope that he’d allow her wing-to-wing touch. He didn’t pull away. He didn’t waver. He even smiled. The power within her grew, and her vision slid lazily into pink, easing into red. It fit with the blush burning her cheeks. This was unexpected. She licked her lips and took another sip of Malort. Once foul, the demon brew was soon becoming as delicious to her as water to a man lost in the desert. She didn’t move his wing. She craved the contact with him. It kept her connected in this world. It made her feel real when nothing else in this new reality made sense.
