Sulaiman Mountains
Javed and Baz scrambled carefully down the narrow stony path, skirted around a boulder the size of a two-story house, and stood behind a bush. There they waited for several minutes, carefully scrutinizing the scene in the treeless ravine below them.
It had taken three hours of travel by mule to reach the camp, where they had arranged to have a short meeting with the mujahideen commander who dominated the region around Khost, Jalaluddin Haqqani. He was long established as a dangerous opponent of the Russian occupying army. Javed knew that Haqqani was already plotting to retake the city of Khost from the Russians.
