“WOW!” Gabby exclaimed, “you sure do know how to take one’s breath away!”
“Well…. She looks good in anything, unlike us…” Michelle said, eyeing me up and down in satisfaction as I walked out of the room.
“Oh phulease!” I said rolling my eyes, “It’s the dress men! It is all because of the dress.” I said laughing.
“I am pretty sure you will look fabulous even if you wear a sack.” Michelle said laughing.
Sighing, I gently brushed the dress in content. I cannot believe that I am wearing this treasure. I looked at the huge mirror hung in the living room, I had my hair up because I wanted to make sure that the dress grabbed all the attention. I matched it with a thin shoulder length long pair of earrings. I finished my look with a pair of Valentino rock-studded beige colour pumps.
Satisfied with my look I turned to Gabby and Michelle, “I don’t know why, but I am kind of nervous right now.” I said heaving a shaky breath.
Gabby raised an eyebrow, “why do you feel so? This is not the first time you are going on a date.”
“I know!!! But I feel as if this is my first time.” I chuckled at the thought.
“Gosh this woman!” Michelle exclaimed. “Are you trying to rub it in our faces that we are single?”
“Hahahahahahahahaha!!!!” I laughed out loud. “Maybe I am!” I said, pulling my tongue at her.
“Yaaa!” She made a grab for a pillow and stopped half way. “Damn it! I can’t even throw this at you because of Chanel!”
“Not because I am all dressed up for a date?” I asked her raising an eyebrow.
“Of course not!”
I shook my head at her bluntness and laughed. I stopped laughing when I heard a loud gasp. I looked at the entrance and saw Daniel frozen at the door with a bunch of flowers in his hand; baby’s breath, my favourite.
“I guess the poor boy lost his breath.” Gabby whispered to me with a snicker.
Out of nowhere a pillow landed on his face, bringing him back to reality.
I narrowed my eyes and glared at Michelle, because she is the only one who would do something that like that.
She simply shrugged at me. “He needed that wake-up call pretty badly.”
I frowned at her and looked at Daniel, “is it too much?” I asked a bit worried.
“You crazy! You look perfect! I was just caught up in the moment.”
“Ok stop! You can stop exaggerating you know…” I said waving my hand at him.
“I am not! You do know how to take a man’s breath away,” saying so he walked up to me and pulled me to him after snaking his arm around my waist. I involuntarily moved towards him and laid a hand on his chest, giggling, I looked up at him.
He placed his fingers under my chin keeping me in place and placed a subtle kiss on my lips. I felt the impact to my toes, small shivers ran through my spin and I smiled into the kiss. It felt perfect.
“These are for you my lady.” He said bringing the flowers in between us.
“Thank you.” I smiled and tiptoed to place a kiss on his cheek. I looked at him, straight into his eyes, they were sparkling, I could literally see them sparkling and for a mere second I panicked. I don’t know why, but I felt my heart skip a beat, not because I was happy but… That sparkle in his eyes took me back. It was only for a mere second but I felt as if I was in that moment right now. I slightly shivered.
“Are you alright?” he whispered to me, bringing me back to reality.
“Yeah. Why?”
“You looked as if you were lost in thought and you shivered? Are you sure you are feeling ok?”
“Yeah. Don’t worry. I am fine.” I gave him a smile and kissed him to reassure him.
“Could you guys please already leave? And take your PDA to wherever you have planned to go.” Michelle whined crunching her nose.
“Fine, fine. We are leaving, and I am taking our PDA along with us as well.” I said rolling my eyes at her. “We’ll meet you at the gala.” Saying so I grabbed my clutch, blew kisses at them and walked to Daniel.
He grabbed my hand and gave it a slight squeeze, “let’s get going.”
“Where are we going?” I asked intrigued at Daniel’s super secrecy.
“Somewhere.” He said winking at me as the car sped passing the city.
After about twenty minutes, the car stopped in front of a park. “Wait here,” he said grinning at me as he opened the door to step out. He walked around the car and opened my door, “my lady?” he said with a slight bow while giving me his hand to step down.
I giggled at his chivalry, “why thank you Sir, it is so kind of you.” I said placing my hand on his out stretched hand. Stepping out of the car I looked around the park, it was empty and I am pretty sure he must have rented the entire park for the night. Rolling my eyes at the thought, I looked at him quizzically.
He gave me his loop side grin and clapped his hands and suddenly out of the blue, the entire park lit up illuminating the entire area.
I let out gasp on seeing the decorations and the beauty. It was so beautiful, every inch of the park was covered with lights. I looked at him in amazement, I was honestly speechless.
“I wanted to do something memorable before you leave and besides we are on a date after a long time, so yeah.” He said smiling at me.
“I love it Danny. I love it so damn much!” I turned to him and looked straight at his eyes, I put my hands behind his neck and lifted myself up, “kiss me.” I whispered. “Kiss me under the stars and make me go crazy.” I said.
Smirking, he pulled me tightly towards him and he kissed me. He kissed me as if there is no tomorrow, he kissed me as if I might disappear the next second, he kissed me, pouring all his feelings and I devoured them.
Giving a peck on my lips, he leant his forehead on mine, “shall we move on? Or God knows what I would do.”
Giggling, I made a grab for his hand which was always there. The entire park was filled and lit with lights, babies breathe covered almost every inch of the park.
“Wish I had multiple eyes to devour the beauty,” I said looking at him. He simply smiled at me and brought me hand to his lips and gave kiss.
“I am glad you like it. But there is more to come.”
I raised my eyebrow at him, “there is more? How the hell did you prepare this? I mean I am pretty sure you did not have enough to time prepare this within a few days. Was this something you have been planning for some time?”
He simply shrugged and smiled mischievously at me, “I don’t know, maybe.”
Shaking my head, we reached a large canopy like banyan tree. A table sat under it with candles. A candle light dinner. I looked up at him and laughed, “I don’t believe this, you tried to recreate our first dinner date?”
“Yup,” he said. “How could I ever forget one of the best moments of my life? I wanted to do something memorable before you leave, and this what I could think of.”
I stood on my toes and gave him a chaste kiss on his cheeks. “I love it! This is more than I could ask for, everything is perfectly perfect.”
“I am glad you like it,” saying so he grabbed my hand and led me towards the table.
“Did you ask my chef to prepare this meal?” I asked after tasting the main.
“You are one of a kind woman! How the hell do you know?”
I simply shrugged, with a knowing smirk playing at the tip of my lips.
“Josh warned me that you will know the moment you take the first bite, and I wanted to humour him. Damn him!”
“Hahahahahahahahahaha! I have told you many times that when it comes to James, I could smell his food from a mile.”
“I thought you were simply pulling my leg.”
“I meant it. But I am so glad that you asked him to prepare the meal, no matter how many times I have tried good food and famous chefs, I prefer James’. Thank you.”
“Anything for my girl.” He said smiling. “So are you ready?”
“We are leaving?” I asked in a shock, “we have time to spare, can’t we wait for a bit longer?”
“You silly girl, I wanted to know if you are ready for a dance?”
Laughing out loud I reached for his out stretched hand, and followed him. He made a grabbed for my waist and pulled me towards him. As the music softly played in the background, I rested my head on his shoulder and swayed with him.
As the music ended, Daniel slowly pulled away and knelt on the ground.
My eyes widen in shock, because I knew what was coming, I knew what was happening. I knew or rather felt as if this night would lead to something like this and that was why I was being restless since the start of the date. As if I knew that something would happen.
“Oh my God! Daniel.” I whispered.
Pulling a black velvet box from his breast pocket, he opened it and raised it up to me. In it sat a very simple diamond ring. When I say Daniel knows me too well, I mean it. He knows me from A to Z, and the fact that I prefer things with simplicity and elegance and especially an engagement ring shows how much he knows about me.
“Clarissa Middleton, from the very first day I met you, despite the many arguments and difference we had at first,” he said with a wink, “my life has being filled with all the wonderful things that one could ask. As you always say, you are indeed unique and custom made just for me.”
At this point I was giggling, crying and fidgeting, I don’t know what to say or do.
Daniel looked right into my eyes and said, “I am not going to be give you a long arse cheesy speech, because you and I both know that neither of us are cut out for that, but I want you to know that I love all of you, I love the you that I know and I love the you that I don’t know. And I don’t want to live another day without you. So please spare me from this agony and accept me as your husband.”
I was a crying mess, I knew that I could not avoid this day and I would eventually have to face the reality. Though I had already planned it out and how to respond, right now all my rationality and reasoning has being flung out of the window leaving me blank. All I know is that, there is a man right here in front of me, ready to accept me as I am though he has no clue or even the slightest bit of an idea about my past, yet is willing to accept me. So what the hell am I waiting for?
As if I was in a trance, I nodded my head and stretched out my left hand.
Relief clearly written all over his face, slowly stood up and gently pushed the ring onto my ring finger. Grabbing my face with his hands he placed a slow passionate kiss. My head was already spinning with so many things, and the kiss is not helping me in anyway either. Pushing everything aside, I circled my arms around his neck and dragged him in. For now, I want to forget all the ‘what ifs’ and ‘what nots’ and simply enjoy the moment.
