Chapter 9 - RELIVING THE PAST

1232 Words
It was a cool and windy evening, the leaves of a tree outside the house banged against the upstairs window giving an odd feel to the house. Annette sat in the living room listening to her parents Venin and Clara complain about something. “You can’t do that” Clara whispered and turned over too Annette who sat quietly watching them. “It’s too dangerous, we still need you” “I know that but it better this way. If something happens, you and Anne can move to Grandel. I have someone there” Venin placed his hand on his wife’s shoulder and wore a bright smile on his face. “What’s going on? Dad why are you talking like you are going to die soon?” Annette finally spoke up walking over to her parents but they kept mute. Her mum smiled warmly with teary eyes and turned over to her “Don’t worry sweetie I’ll explain it to you later” The house suddenly tore apart, Annette stood over her parents and sirens filled the air, her parents laid on the ground in the pool of their blood. “Mum… Dad” she sobbed staring with fear in her eyes at the horrid scene. “Anne! Anne!! Anne!!!” a voice whispered in her head and she forced her eyes open, Byron stood over her looking extremely worried and she stared at him feeling really confused. “What the hell are you doing here?” her voice croaked as she struggled off the bed “Good morning” he frowned moving away from the bed. Annette stared at herself, she was sweating profusely. It’d been years since she’d experienced this nightmare and she wondered why it came back all of a sudden. “How did you get in?” Byron raised his brow feeling really dumbfounded… “I have a spare key” he stretched his words, it’s not like she didn’t know that. Annette rubbed her hand against her forehead, the headache she felt was unbearable “You okay?” he asked helping her sit properly on the bed and she nodded. “I’ll get you a glass of water” Byron stated rushing out of the bedroom. Annette stared at her bedroom window staring out at the bright sky feeling like she’d forgotten something… she stared at the time, it was 10:30am. “Gosh I overslept” she muttered standing up from the bed. Byron walked in with a glass of water and handed it over to her and she drank it in one gulp. “You missed your appointment” he stated and she sighed “That’s what it was… damn, what did she say?” “I told her you were sick and apparently it looks like I was right… she’s expecting you on Monday” Annette moved towards her dresser and picked her towel that hung over a chair next to it and turned over to Byron with a smile “Thank you” “Don’t thank me… what happened to you?” he moved over to her placing the back of his hand on her forehead. “I’m fine” she knocked off his hand and walked back to the bed “Catty came by this morning” “She what? How did she get here?” “Don’t know” she yawned tiredly “I just don’t get it, I spent the last ten years of my life investigating the rogue community but no one has ever admitted knowing anything about them and suddenly two people show up out of nowhere claiming to have info about the humanoid” “It’s strange huh? Maybe there’s something up… It can’t just be a coincidence” Byron sighed and she turned over to him. “You also look drained” she smirked walking over to him. “Been out all night, a bus of twelve females heading for a camp trip last week was discovered at bottom of a lake by some deep sea divers… three bodies have been recovered already” he sighed and she placed her hand gently on his cheek. “There was something strange about the accident, I couldn’t say anything though else they’ll think am paranoid” “What? What’s odd?” “A few claw scratches at the end of the bus and it seems like the bus didn’t drive into the lake but was thrown in… crazy huh?” he moved away from her and sat on the chair next to the dresser. Annette folded her hands and watched him quietly “Why would they think you’re paranoid, just tell them your observations” “Well my superiors think it was a kidnap attempt and brought all form of logic on how the bus ended up in the lake… they’ll never listen to what I say, sometimes it feels like they are deliberately hiding the truth” “Obviously you don’t think that the rouges can go on with all their business smoothly without having a little backing… I won’t be surprise if they have themselves planted in various positions” Annette clenched her fist in disgust “I just got to get my parents killer then I’ll give those bastard what they deserve” the thought of her parents made her remember her dream “…Grandel…” she muttered to herself, it most definitely wasn’t on the map and no matter how hard she tried to find the place she always ended up with dead end. “Don’t overwork yourself… It’s going to be fine” Byron placed his hand on her shoulder putting on a warm smile “hit the showers, I’ll go prepare something for you” he stated and left the room. Annette watched in silence as he left the room… Byron was a real life saver and she was really happy she’d met him even if she never really showed it. She pulled off the t-shirt she had on and walked into the bathroom with her towel hanging over her shoulder. Today she would be one step closer to solving the mystery of her parents death and honestly she had no idea how to feel about it. She suddenly thought of Catty and wondered if she should help her out in finding the Zephyr guy. “Argh!!!” she groaned turning on the shower and letting the water beat against her skin “Why am I even considering it” she sighed thinking of the event that had gone down earlier. After about thirty minutes in the shower, Annette came out of the bathroom and was met with an unusual silence. She threw on her t-shirt and went over to her dresser, she picked up a shot gun from the bottom drawer and peeped out through her bedroom door. Byron was pinned to ground by a hefty young man and two men stood behind him, another sat on the couch with a glass in his hand and she hissed “What’s with unexpected guest all of a sudden” she walked out quietly through the door shooting down the two guys who stood next to Byron and then pointed her gun at the man on the couch. “You better have a good reason for being in my house” she glared ready to pump a million bullets into the man's thick skull.
