Chapter 10 Jessica's POV The entire design department fell silent, dozens of eyes shifted between Alexander and me. And no one dared to breathe. I looked at the hand he was holding. Warm, steady, unexpected. "Mr Knight...,"my manager stammered as he hurried over. "What an honor, we weren't expecting you." That was when Alexander finally looked away from me. "I didn't come for the company." His voice calm, but every word carried authority. "I came for my wife." Immediately, a fresh wave of whispers spread across the office. "So the rumors are true. She is really Mrs Knight." "I can't believe it..." I gently tugged at his sleeve. "What are you doing here?" I asked quietly. He lowered his voice so only i could hear. "I heard about the investigation." My heart skipped. "So you came because of that?" "I came because someone thought they could attack my wife," Alexander replied. His words caughting me off guard. this was a contract marriage, so why is he acting like this?. My manager then cleared his throat nervously. "Mr Knight, please don't misunderstand. This investigation is only a company procedure." "Well, I hope that is all it is," Alexander muttered, as his sharp gaze settled on him. "Yes, it is," my manager answered immediately. "I trust Jessica completely." Alexander nodded once, "Good." Then his gaze turned back to me. "Let's go." "No, I'm still working," I said, frowning. "You have missed lunch." "I'm not hungry," I insisted, refusing to go with him. But his expression remained unchanged. "You said the same thing yesterday." I blinked in surprise. He remembered? "I can eat later." "No," he said, his tone left no room for argument. "We are leaving, now." My coworkers watched us with expressions ranging from shock to envy. Then one woman whispered. "She really can order Mr Knight around." "No... it's Mr Knight who is looking after her," the other person quickly corrected the first person. But i pretended not to hear, grabbing my handbag, I followed Alexander outside. And as we got into the car, neither of us spoke for several minutes before finally i broke the silence. "You know, you didn't have to come," I said, staring at the busy streets through the window. "I know," he replied softly. My curiosity piqued. "Then why did you?" Then he looked out the window, "Because if i hadn't, everyone would have assumed the rumors were true." I stared at him in disbelief. "So this was for appearance?" "It was for both of us." His answer was simple but somehow...it eased the weight pressing on my chest. Twenty minutes later, the car stopped in front of an elegant Japanese restaurant overlooking a quiet garden. Immediately, a hostess hurried toward us and bowed. "Welcome, Mr Knight." Then she led us into a private dining room, the moment the door closed, I finally relaxed. The table was already set with tea and water. "Drink this," Alexander said, after pouring tea into my cup. I smiled helplessly. "You really don't like taking no for an answer, do you?" He shook his head. "No, i don't." "I have noticed," I muttered, my voice barely above a whisper. And for the first time since arriving, a faint smile touched the corner of his lips. But it disappeared almost immediately. "Wait a second, you smiled," I said. He nodded. "Yes, i did." "And if am not mistaken. It's the second time in one week." "Don't get used to it," he said casually. "Okay, I will try," I replied, laughing softly. Soon, the food arrived. The sweet aroma filling the room. As we ate, Alexander suddenly asked me, "Have you made any enemies?" I looked up. "Besides Jerry?" "I'm serious," he whispered, not smiling. "So am i," I replied, my voice firm, before setting down my chopsticks. "I have only been promoted for two days and someone is trying very hard to destroy my reputation." "And do you have any idea who it could be?," he asked, his eyes studying me carefully. Just then, Vivian's face flashed through my mind but i couldn't accuse her without any proof. "I have a suspicion." "Who?," he asked. "Not now. I will tell you when I'm certain," I said, as my eyes narrowed, my expression thoughtful. Then he nodded. "It's okay. I will have Derek investigate as well." I looked at him in surprise. "You don't have to." "I have already decided," he said, his voice calm. "Anyone targeting my wife is indirectly challenging me." Immediately my heart skipped as something stirred inside me. This marriage was fake though the contract was real. But yet... his protection didn't feel fake at all. Photographer's POV I hide behind a decorative wooden screen across the restaurant, as i quietly lowered my camera. Then i clicked a photo, and another photo, of Alexander smiling at Jessica. Alexander pouring tea for Jessica and when he was looking at her. "This should make tomorrow's headlines," I said grinning. As I immediately sent the pictures to an unknown contact. A few minutes later, I received a reply. "Good. Make sure Vivian receives them first." I smiled after reading the message and then I texted back. "Understood." Vivian's POV I sat inside my luxury apartment as i opened the photos that was sent to my phone a seconds ago. My face turned pale, red with rage on seeing how Alexander was staring at Jessica like she was the only thing that mattered to him in the world. I gripped the phone so tightly that my knuckles turned white. "So, he really is falling for her." Then a slow, dangerous smile spread across my lips. "If that is the case.... then i will destroy her before he realizes it." Instantly, I picked up my second phone and dialed a number. The call connected almost immediately. "I need you to arrange something," I said, my tone cold like ice. "What kind of something?," a deep male voice answered. I stared through the window, my eyes darkening. "An accident."
