Chapter 14 Jessica's POV I sat on the floor inside my room, making rough sketches on my notepad just to take off my mind from thinking about the suspension, the recent incident that happened in the office. Of Jerry searching my things, about what happened in Alexander's company. But it wasn't working. Then i decided to give Brenda a call, so we could go out and have a cup of coffee. Just as i picked up the phone to dial her line, a notification message from my boss popped up. JESSICA ADDAMS MAKE SURE TO RESUME WORK TOMORROW. "What ?!" I almost screamed, my eyes widening in shock. Didn't they suspend me?, now I'm asked to return back. What could have changed their mind so fast? Or did Alexander do something that made them to ask me to come back." My subconscious mind whispered. "Well, that isn't important. What matters, is that I'm finally getting back to work." Next morning, i left to the company. And the moment I stepped into the design department, every head turned. Conversations stopped. Every pair of eyes followed me. I kept walking, on taking third step, whispers began. "So it's true... she's really Mrs Knight." "I heard Mr Knight married her after only knowing her for a few days." "How lucky..." "Lucky? More like suspicious. But wait, wasn't she suspended?" "Well, I heard the boss asked her to come back." But i ignored them, as I placed my handbag on my desk before switching on my computer. Just as the monitor lit up, my department manager walked over. "Jessica." "Yes, sir?" I answered. "The CEO wants everyone in conference room three," he said. I stared at him. "The CEO?" He nodded. "The investors are visiting." Five minutes later, nearly forty designers gathered inside the conference room. And the atmosphere became tense the moment the company president entered, beside him stood two elegantly dressed investors. "Our company," the president announced, "has an opportunity to partner with Knight Global tech." Immediately the room exploded with excitement. While my heart raced. Alexander? "So," the president continued, "today each design team will submit one original concept. And the winning design will be presented directly to Knight global." I frowned but on second thought, my mind whispered. Original... good. That's fair. Just then, Vivian walked into the room, my eyes narrowed. Why is she here? The president smiled. "Everyone, allow me to introduce Miss Vivian Howard. She will be representing Knight global through out this collaboration." And the room immediately erupted in applause. Vivian smiled elegantly. "Thank you." As her eyes found me almost instantly, and a slow smile spread across her lips. An hour later, I sat quietly sketching, as my pencil moved effortlessly across the paper. Elegant curves, perfect proportions, fresh and original. Exactly the kind of design that could win. I was half way finished when someone stopped beside my desk. I looked up. It was Vivian. "I'd like to speak with you," Vivian said. Then i calmly put down my pencil. "I'm listening." "I mean privately," she smiled but it didn't reach her eyes. "Okay," I muttered and quietly followed her inside an empty meeting room, then she closed the door. "I will make this simple." "I'm listening," I said, folding my arms. "Withdraw from the competition," she said, placing a file on the table. I blinked. "...Why?" "Because you are going to lose,"Vivian said sarcastically. "That sounds like something you will have to prove," I replied as i smiled slightly. And her smile disappeared. "You don't understand. This project determines who becomes Knight global's exclusive jewelry partner." But i remained calm and asked, "So?" "I have already been promised the position," she replied confidently. "If it's already yours, then why are you worried about me," I said, as i tilted my head. At that, Vivian's expression cracked. "You..." But i just picked up the file and handed it back. "I don't withdraw from competitions." "And you think Alexander will keep protecting you forever?" She snapped, her voice cold like ice. "I never asked him to," I answered quietly. Then she stepped closer. "You don't belong in his world." And i met her eyes. "That is strange. But I'm already living in it." Vivian's jaw tightened. "You will regret challenging me." But i didn't flinch. Rather I smiled politely. "I look forward to finding out." Then i walked past Vivian without another word as the meeting room door closed. Vivian's POV As Jessica left the room, I remained standing there, breathing heavily. After several seconds, I pulled out my phone. "I need you to do something for me." "What kind of job?" A male voice answered. Then my eyes darkened, my heart burning in dangerous rage. "I want Jessica Addams to lose this competition... before it even begins."
