Lycan School

Lycan School left a lot to be desired by me. "At least it's not a boarding school," I told Caleb. He lounged on my bed as I hung my backpack over my shoulder. "Oh, no, if they did that, things would go very wrong." He chuckled. I turned to look at myself in the mirror, angling so I could try to see myself from all angles. "Do I look okay?" I tugged at my pants, trying to de-wrinkle them. "Ironing is useless." I mumbled. I watched as his eyes trailed down my outfit, something tense within them. "Yeah, perfect." Autumn dawned upon us, so it wasn't a bad thing to dress warm, but deep down it was more than that. Maybe fewer Alphas will try to take me if I leave less to desire. But...looking at Caleb's eyes didn't seem like that would work at all. Yet, the longer she thought about and looked at him...maybe the others wouldn't even try to approach her because of him. She knew how he felt about her, what fate had in store for them. But she didn't know if she was ready for that, maybe this would be the year that changes that. "How's Col doing?" I asked, shifting the conversation. He released a sigh, his shoulders hunching over, "I don't think he'll ever really be okay. The men and I have tried, but I don't know if there's anything we can do." "I know." "Don't you worry about a thing. Come, let me drive you to school." I nodded, and let him lead me out of my home and into his car. It was a pretty black Corvette, and the love of his life, as he'd always say. The seats were plush yet sturdy and when he entered at the driver's side, it felt like we were suddenly a lot closer than we really were. "Nervous?" he asked, his voice a bit lower. I nodded, "Just a bit." "It'll be fine. I'll be there with you." The drive to school was a lot shorter than I expected, and the school was as big as I imagined. For a place that's meant to teach unmated werewolves about their nature and their true place in this world, it's supposed to be. Still, as I stared up at the building, fear etched into my throat. Just how many Alphas were in there? It didn't matter that Caleb was with me, I was still unsettled. "Come." He rested his hand on the small of my back, leading me through the front door and into a classroom. There weren't many students inside, most of them looked just like me. Timid eyes, too much emotion written on their faces. All Omegas. "Thank you, Alpha Caleb, for bringing her. Come, Stella, take any seat you'd like." I moved to go to a seat and I felt Caleb tense behind me. "Have a good day, alright? I'll see you after," he said, his voice clipped. Glancing back for just a moment, I gave him a simple smile, then I sat behind a desk next to a girl, seeming to be similar in age as I am. "Hi," I said. "Hello," she replied, her blonde hair falling before her eyes. "I'm Nina." "I'm Stella." I turned my attention back to the woman at the front. The professor, she must be. "Good morning, everyone. I am Alpha Devon, and welcome to your first class in learning what being an Omega truly means. This is the first step in securing not only your future, but the future for your packs. Some of you here may become Lunas, others may remain as you are now, an Omega. Either fate is perfectly fine, but not all of you will find your mates." At that, many whines went around the room and I even felt one rise from inside me. I bit my lip to try and shut it in, but it came out regardless. The wolf in me, petrified at the thought of not finding her match, but I was sure that wouldn't be an issue for me. Finding him wasn't the problem...accepting him was. "But try not to worry, I am here to help guide you all on how to find them. Now, this wouldn't be a proper class if I didn't have a fellow Omega to teach alongside me," from behind the desk, a man stood up and walked next to her. "This is my mate, Finn." He waved, "Lovely morning, students. We look forward to teaching you." Alpha Devon leaned against the desk while Finn went back to sitting in the chair. "Alright, usually I start my classes by having you introduce yourself. However, I think it's best to just dive right into it. Our first topic is Alphas v. Omegas. What makes us so different? Can anyone tell me?" The room echoed in defeaning silence and my heart thumped a little harder, anxiety flooding my senses. It is not hard for me to know the differences between us, but...to speak in front of all of these Omegas before an Alpha? It was more than nerve-wracking. Devon smiled to herself before speaking, "I often forget who I'm speaking with," she then changed the cadence of her tone to be softer, more inviting, "What do you all believe to be the difference between us, huh?" Her eyes landed on each one of us, pulling the very need to satisfy and be praised from deep within us. Many hands went up, including mine. I wanted to pull it down, but it stayed firm in the air. It was only my first class, and yet I was already giving in to more of my instincts. After years of fighting them, this school will undo it all in a matter of days. - "Where's Alpha Caleb?" I asked as I noticed Alpha Rowan waiting for me after my class. His dark hair pushed back to give him a polished look made him look fiercer than Caleb and Alistair. He was always the one she was most afraid of. Shoving his phone in his pocket, he looked up at me. "Busy. Come, I need to feed you," he said, his voice gruff, like he wasn't used to speaking a lot. I nodded and followed after him like an obedient puppy. What is wrong with me? "What would you like to eat?" "Oh, um, the chicken and mashed potatoes look good." I watched as he did it for me, giving me my portion. So far, I've done a good job avoiding Alphas aside from my professors, of course. Now that I look around the cafeteria, my plate of food in my hand, I can see why. They all seemed so tense and some of their eyes glanced back and forth between him and me. "They're staring." I whisper. Rowan leaned in, his expression unreadable. "They can hear you." He whispered back. My eyes grew wide and when I looked back, sure enough I saw some of them smiling. Oh goddess. I looked back to Rowan and his brows creased, his eyes analyzing me. It was different. Usually he is stoic, but he showed emotion. Why? "Alpha Rowan?" "Yes, Little One?" "Are you okay?" He straightened, smoothing his expression, "Perfectly. I will enjoy having you around, Stella."
