Charleston's girlfriend Lila said, "I have to tell you something." They were sitting together on a bench in the courtyard of O.C. Community College.
His stomach dropped as if all of the information had instantly passed through him without her needing to spell it out. He'd sensed their denouement, but he didn't dare acknowledge it. "Like, what?"
"Remember," Lila said meticulously, "I told you I cannot stay forever."
