Chapter 10

1003 Words
Chris and I walk into my house, and into the massive paper mess that James and Derrek had apparently added to since we left. In the 15 minutes it took to get the pizza’s, James had finally run out of people that fit the criteria and Derrek had run out of obituaries. They had started organizing them alphabetically by last name. “So, do y’all want to pause to eat, or keep going?” I ask, setting the soda’s down on the coffee table. Chris mimics my actions with the pizza boxes, careful not to mess up the piles the James and Derrek had made. “I suppose we could pause Love. Do we need to eat at the table?” “Nah, we can eat in here. Let me go grab some plates and cups. Do any of y’all want ice for your soda? They don’t feel very cold to me.” “Sure, I would love some ice, Doll. Let me come help you.” James followed me into the kitchen and grabbed 4 glasses from the cup cabinet. “I never asked you this before, but why are your cups on the left side of the sink? That is normally a trait for left-handed people, and you are right-handed.” I laughed, opening the cabinet, and grabbing 4 plates. “Both of my grandma’s are left-handed, so my parents grew up with the cups always being there. They kept it the same way while I grew up even though all of us are right-handed. It just feels normal to me.” James nodded, opening my freezer, and pulling out an ice tray. “Makes sense.” He dropped 4 cubes each into 3 of the cups and then put the tray back in the freezer. “I’ll take these out to the living room.” “Okay, I’ll be right behind you.” I open my fridge and grab a can of Coke Zero, then grab the napkin dispenser off the table. Balancing the soda and the napkins on the plates, I head back to the living room. The second I put the plates down and take the napkins and my soda off, the boys go crazy. It’s like they are in middle school and are fighting for their fair share. I just stare at them. Apparently no matter how old they are, boys are still savages when it comes to food. Is this what it would have been like to have brothers? Too bad I was an only child. Once they are all satisfied with the amount of food on their plates and they have opened their sodas, they start eating. James and Derrek sitting back where they had been earlier. I sat on the couch next to Derrek and Chris took a seat in the yellow chair. “Other than organizing by name, did y’all get any big clues about who it could be?” I ask, swallowing a bite of pizza. James swallowed his bite of pizza and took a sip of Sprite. “Not really. Derrek and I figured that first we would have you go through and see if you remember meeting any of them. If you do, we can take them off the potential list. We should also probably make sure that no one in my pile is also in Derrek’s pile.” “So that would only leave me with living males that I hadn’t met before.” Derrek nodded, “Right. Then we could start paying them all a visit, see if there are any instant sparks between you and one of them.” “What happens if I don’t connect with any of them? Also, how do we know that my 4th Fate hasn’t died?” Chris looked at me, “If your 4th Fate had died, one of us would have been alerted that we needed to reenter your life.” Chris took a deep breath, “To answer your other question, we just keep examining your past to see if there was anyone else that it could have been.” “And if no one else pops up? Is that when we go to the Fate Council?” “The Fate Council is a last resort Love. If we can fix this without having to bring them into it at all, that would be best for everyone involved.” Derrek meets the glances of the other guys and then they all take another bite of their pizza. I look around at all their faces. The Council must have a strict punishment for telling the female Fate. I don’t think I have ever seen any of them look this scared before. “Okay, so we randomly put your names in a hat, and I draw one?” I joke, trying to lighten the sudden doom-and-gloom mood that had crept in. Derrek, James, and Chris all laughed. “That would be one way to choose Des.” “Odds would be fair. Could also do a dice roll, with one of you being the numbers 1 and 4, the second one being 2 and 5 and the last one being 3 and 6.” “I want to be 1 and 4 then Des.” James looked at Chris, “Why those numbers?” Chris chuckled, “4 is Destiny’s favorite number. Maybe it would give me a better chance.” Derrek nodded, “I want to be 2 and 5 then since we met in 5th grade.” James looked at me, “Do the numbers 3 or 6 represent anything from when we met?” “6 was your baseball jersey number in High School, right?” “Yes!” James laughed, “So I guess it’s settled how you will decide between the 3 of us then Doll.” “Hopefully we find my 4th Fate and it all sorts itself out somehow.” “We can only hope,” All three guys said at the same time.
